Hi Ladies,
I'm new here, but I just found THE dress today and wanted to see if anyone had any pictures of themselves in it because the salon wouldn't let us take pictures until I buy it! It's by Watters and it's called Devenport. The picture on their website doesn't even come close to doing it justice, and all my friends are dying to see it! Thanks in advance for your help!
@badcorebubbles: I'm in the same boat! Tried it on at a trunk show today and I'm in looooove. Also couldn't take photos :( I can only one find image of it online, the one from the Watters website. It really does not show the detail of the skirt - that's what I loved about it, the double layer of organza and lace. Did you end up ordering it? If so, please post your pics!
@miss.gloves: Yes I ordered it, should arrive at the end of June!! I ended up ordering it from a different salon that doesn't carry the sample but they gave me an AMAZING price so I had to do it. I will post pics after I go to pick it up! Can't come fast enough!!!!
Do you think you'd a sash or anything to it? I'm having my mom make a champagne or light pink satin sash for me, and maybe adding some buttons to the back. Just curious if you had any fun accessorizing ideas :)
@badcorebubbles: If you don't mind, can you tell me what price you were able to get? I tried it on at Macy's bridal salon in Chicago and the original price was $2,400, with a 15% trunk show discount. I'm not ready to pull the trigger yet and I know I should call around to see if I can get a better price, so can you tell me what ballpark I should be aiming for?
The sales consultant added a beaded sash to the dress for me and I loved it. We also tried a champagne satin sash, but I liked the sparkle of the beaded sash better. She also added a nearly floor length veil which was gorgeous and matched the airy feel of the skirt. I didn't even think of doing buttons down the back, that'd be really nice!
@missgloves, that's an amazing price! I orderered mine in January at a trunk show in Toronto and got it for around $2300 (plus tax) I'm now wishing I got it for the price you were offered in Chicago (around 2000, nice!)!! I also saw it on bestbridalprices for 2200, but I don't know anyone who has used the site so am not sure if it is super reliable or not!
I agree with you ladies - the dress is sooo beautiful. I ultimately was down to the Lasara or Devenport and finally felt like the Devenport won, it is perfect for women with bigger busts but a tiny waist :) The girl on the website does not do the dress justice ;)
Were you guys told that it would be in during July? I'm getting married at the end of August so hope it comes in with no hitches - hehe!
I ordered the Devenport at a Trunk Show this weekend! Funny thing is, I actually already had a dress. I went to the Watters Trunk Show for bridesmaids, and saw it on the rack and just had to try it on. It was just love at first sight. Its so crazy, but I just couldn't see my wedding without it! I paid around $2000 for it.
I actually didn't buy the Devenport yet - it's definitely still the front runner though! It was only my second time dress shopping and my first trunk show. I had no idea if the trunk show discount was actually reasonable or not and I kinda felt pressured from the sales consultant so I walked away. The more I think about it the more I like it... it also has the right amount of "poof" in the skirt without being overwhelming and I think the length of the train is just right. But my wedding's not til April of next year so I've got plenty of time. You ladies let me know if you've got a size 10 that you'd be willing to sell! ;)
Hey ladies! I bought my Devenport at a salon in Northern VA about 3 weeks ago. I go the dress for just over $2000 including tax - they gave me the "trunk show" price, supposedly. I absolutely loved the dress. I'll try to find the picture from the salon ... the dress was a little bit big - but I felt beautiful in it and it was seriously light as air. Ah - here it is:

@miss.gloves: Sorry for the late reply... I paid a little under $2000 for it including tax and the trunk show discount (10%) they mathed for me. I think the MSRP is $2200. The salon I found it at wanted $2600 and I knew that was high based on the Lasara I had tried on before.
@marilovely: Thanks for posting your pic!!! So nice to see it on a real woman :) Aww but it makes me miss it even more!!!
@marilovely - thanks for posting the pic, you look lovely :) :)
UGHHH ladies, I'm feeling so crappy now for paying 2600 (including tax, trunk show price) for that dress when you lovely people got it for around 2000! When I was buying the dress and told the boutique that it was retailing for 2200 on bestbridal they gave me a shpeel on how they're Watters certified via the official website (which is true) and wouldn't be cheating me on the price of the dress, it's within the range Watters recommends.
But now I'm feeling cheated -- should I call them back and rant about the price and see if they'll lower it (I've paid 50% as deposit so far)?
Hi ladies, thanks for all the info - I finally took the plunge and bought the dress!! I was in NYC for work and I ended up getting the dress from RK Bridal for $2,100 plus $30 shipping to Chicago, no tax. I took some quick pictures and will post them when I unload them off my camera. In the meantime, I found a video of the dress - enjoy!
Here it is! I liked the beaded belt with it, but will probably do something a little thinner. Also attached is a picture of the layers of lace on the skirt, which is one of my favorite parts of the dress!
Hmm, well that didn't work! Will try to figure out how to post pics later.
OMG yay for the video! And congrats for buying it! I'm dying to see your pics... I still have 2 months before I'm reunited with mine. :(
Hey MissGloves! That looks awesome :)
I'm so excited - I picked up my dress from the boutique yesterday, yes, it finally arrived!! It looks so pretty but needs to be altered!
Miss Gloves you look GORGEOUS!! I am thinking the sash I had in mind is a little too wide also, now that I'm seeing the dress again. Thanks for sharing
My dress is IN!!! I need to wait another 2 weeks to actually go visit it though, because my FI's sisters wedding is this weekend and I want to wait until my MOH can come with me because she never got to see it before (she lives an hour away). But I promise I will post some pics!!!!!
@badcorebubbles:Yay, it's gorgeous on you! I really like your necklace and the sash - and you look so happy! Congrats!
@miss.gloves: Thanks!! I got the necklace custom made by this etsy seller: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SerebaDesigns It's SO sparkly in person, I just love it!
gorgeous dress!! Wow! I always love watters designs though
I got my dress too!!! It just arrived yesterday! Yay! I haven't tried it on yet though, I'll do that this weekend.
One thing - the skirt is more yellow-y than I remembered... and looking back at the photos I took in the store, the skirt does seem to match the color of the bodice better and is more white. Has anybody else noticed this?
@miss.gloves: Hooray! Yea I kinda noticed that you could see where the bodice ended more than I remembered, but I chalked it up to just fuzzy memory and being stressed out at the time. It doesn't bother me too much though, just makes it look more "vintage" which fits perfectly with my venue. I assume you ordered the ivory color? I bet once you have the whole thing on with your veil and accessories, you won't even notice!! :)
@badcorebubbles: Thank you! I thought I was going crazy... Yes, I ordered it in ivory - because that was what the store sample was supposed to be. I asked to see a dress in white, but they didn't have any. The store said they have all their samples in ivory because the white would get dirty too quickly. So I figured that the ivory dress that I ordered would be even more white than the sample I tried on. But it's not! And the one thing that my fiance said when I was dress shopping was that he preferred a white dress over ivory... sigh. I dunno, I might contact the store and ask them to check the color of the sample.
Hi everyone! I also ordered the Watter Devenport dress in Ivory - I love it and just tried it on for the first time after it arrived yesterday. I also found that the colour of the organza skirt is darker than in the sample I tried on when I purchased. In the sample, the lace was the same as the organza. In my dress, the organza is darker.
I am a bit upset actually because this is not what I ordered and it is too late to order another dress now! Is there anything I can do about this?
@laurenk24: I've been trying to say to myself for a week that you're being obsessive, no one will notice, it doesnt matter, etc.--but it does! I'm actually glad I'm not the only one that noticed. I tried my dress on again today and now I feel like the lace really stands out against the organza. So much so that you can now see the netting of the lace really clearly, whereas I couldn't see that in the sample dress (you can see what I mean in the photo above) What is going on?! I thought maybe the store had gave me a white dress to try on but told me it was ivory. But if we all ordered from different salons (I ordered mine from RK Bridal in New York), then it has to be a Watters issue. Maybe the samples that Watters sent to the salons were a different dye lot than what was actually produced. And while my wedding is further away, I don't know if there's much I can do. I'll try to call the salon this week and see if they've run into this issue with other brides. Sigh.
I am so glad that you are both having the same issue as well. They said in the store that I was just remembering incorrectly, but I know that the lace and organza were the same colour in the sample. Also, I find the lace at the top in the sample rose above the edge of the bodice as part of the design, and on mine trims the edge of the bodice. It seems to be a very different dress.
I am not sure what to do! I bought my dress from Felischia Bridal in Toronto, Canada to see if others have this issue as well tomorrow and will keep you posted!
Hello everyone, I also ordered the Watters Devenport dress in Ivory at a local salon and it just arrived this week. I also found that the color of the organza skirt is darker compared to the sample dress I tried on. I will call the salon and see if there's anything they can do for me.

I called my salon today and they said to send them an email and they will pass it on to Watters. I'm going to take some more pictures of my actual dress so I can compare them to the pictures of the sample dress. I'll keep you updated!
Just a quick update: I called my salon and they assured me that it's the same color and told me to bring the dress back to compare it with the sample. I'll do that sometimes this week and keep you guys posted of the outcome.
Hi everyone!
I bought my dress from the Trunk Show, so the store didn't actually carry it at the time. It was called Ivory but was really a milky white and all one colour.
I compared my actual dress this weekend (white is the milky white in the lace and a true ivory now in the organza) and it does match the sample they have in-store. However, this sample was purchased since I bought my gown, and was not the original trunk show one I tried. I believe the dress Felischia ordered was also part of the "bad batch" that has the darker skirt. They also must not be happy!
I am hoping they might be able to help but it doesn't look good. I love this dress and am so sad it is so different from the original I tried on.
Ladies, I have an update (sorta)! I sent an email to RK Bridal and they responded right away. They said that Watters wants to take a look at the gown so they're sending me a UPS tag so I can ship it back to the salon without charge. Who knows, Watters may take a look and say it's the correct color - but I'm happy that the salon is taking steps to help get this figured out. Fingers crossed!
If any of you ladies want a copy of the email I sent to my salon detailing the issue with the color and with accompanying photos to help you make your case, just PM me and I'll forward it to you.
Sorry to have jacked the thread with this problem, but I do still love the dress!
Hey Ladies!
I hope everyone's dress issues get sorted out! That's really weird that they'd use the wrong coloured silk...doesn't seem very 'Watters' of them. Write to them directly, I was able to get a quickish response when I was gripping about the nonsensical price hike for the dress as soon as you go 1.5 hrs north of Buffalo to Toronto... sigh.
ANYWAYS, the reason I'm writing is to say that this Sunday, I get to try on my dress for the first time ALL FITTED and am soooo excited/nervous :D :D !! Will definitely take pics to post up here... I'm gonna see if my lace is darker as well, I didn't notice it before giving it to her though...
Talk soon xo Happy planning!
Aw man -- I went to try on the dress and liked it but didn't LOVE it! I'm not sure how big a fan I am of the fact that it poofs out at the back so much as it adds 'weight' to the hips that I don't have! Did any of you feel that way?
I'm now considering speaking to my seamstress about performing some surgery on the dress for me, haha. To tuck it in a bit so that it looks like the back of this dress: http://www.bridaldress4u.com/ebay_photo/ellen_back.jpg
what do you girls think??
@monkeybear: What a shame you aren't in love anymore! :( About the style/fit... I am guessing I have the opposite body type you do - I am very top heavy but don't have much in the way of hips or a butt. So that's actually part of the reason I REALLY love this dress. In fact when I took mine in to get altered yesterday, we were trying different bustles and I told her to give me the one that makes my butt look the biggest!!
I'm not exactly sure how the seamstress can make it like the picture you posted, just because of all those layers of organza, but I hope they can make it perfect for you! Good luck :)
