Okay so I have never done a bikini wax (shaved only) and I would like to do it before the wedding.

What's the recommendation on how early I should do this before the wedding?

(also - I have asian hair)

I, too, would love to know the answer.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Humm. Don't know anything about asian hair, but I waxed (the full monty) the Monday before the wedding- but that was more because I didn't have time the rest of the week and I wanted to make sure that I was in the clear for our two week honeymoon after the wedding. And it was the perfect amount of time. But I suppose you could do it the tuesday or wed.

Just be careful to schedule around your period. That can make it hurt a lot worse. And take two advil before.  Have fun and if you can, have a drink before or after!!

Oh, one last thing, wear something a bit loser on the bottom- once I wore tight jeans and the walk home after was a bit painful.

    - Make sure the hair is long; it's easier to wax off that way

    - Take a couple of advil beforehand

    - Get a product like Tendskin to use afterward (you can ask the aesthetician, they should be able to recommend something); this helps prevent ingrown hairs -- I know you're not supposed to get them from waxing, but sometimes I do, anyway

I would seriously recommend you do a trial run ASAP and see how your skin reacts to it. The first time is the worst time and your skin will take longer to recover. I'm a waxer and, having done it many times now, the best results are the few days after the wax. But the first time my skin took a couple days to recover from it. The general rule is you wax every 4 weeks, so if you go now and it works out, you should be good to get another right before the wedding. Also, make sure you get a good cream or some pads to prevent ingrown hairs. Ask your waxer for a good product to try.

Oh, yeah, and if you drink, have a drink BEFORE. It really makes a difference.

I get bikini waxes regularly and am contemplating an underarm wax before the wedding...has anyone tried that?  It being summer and all, I'd like to NOT have to do a trial run and grow my hair for 3-4 weeks.  Advice?

(And, the first time I got a bikini wax it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  You'll love the results!)

Hmmm never got an underarm wax. I don't know how that works - do you have to grow your hair out in the same way as you do for a bikini wax? If so then I don't think it's worth it.

This might be a silly question, but just how much difference is there between a regular bikini wax and a brazilian?  I know the concept of the brazilian, but does that mean a regular wax is just a little off the true "bikini line" (like the part that would show if you were wearing a bikini)?  Would you recommend a regular bikini wax for the first time, and later getting a brazilian?  How have your experiences been with either or both?

@Kittyachi - I was wondering the same thing about the underarm thing..here's what I found online -

Basically, says the hair should be short or it won't work...hope this helps! :)

Underarm waxes are wonderful especially if your hair is darker than your skin.  When I shave I can still see the roots, almost like a shadow.  Yuck.  A wax removes it.  I think its nearly painless and its also not very expensive usually.

I did the underarm thing a few weeks ago to try it out and....OWWWWWWWW. I got a Brazilian done a few weeks before and it didn't make me cry like the underarm did. Then again, I didn't take any pain killers before. My first reaction? So not worth it. But I've grown to like it. The hair grew back pretty quickly, but not nearly as thickly or quickly as before. So now the verdict is out. But do it a few days in advance. I couldn't put my arms down by my sides that night and had to sleep with my arms over my head! (Much to my fiance's amusement.)

August15 - I am picturing myself trying to sleep with my arms over my head, and thinking, I might stick with shaving! haha!

@ August...methinks you need a new waxer?  Couldn't put your arms down.  That's ridiculous.  And grew back quickly? It should take about 4 weeks for that mess to get back.  Sounds like your waxer merely tore the hairs off and didnt pull them from the root.  That usually happens when the skin is pulled.  Sorry it was so painful!

From my experience, I second kittyachi's advice to do a trial run ASAP. Then after 6 weeks or so you can do it the week before your wedding if you like it. Plus, the second trip should be easier.

I had my first wax earlier this summer and although it didn't hurt during or right after, I was red for 3 days and just was not nice at all. I am sure this had more to do with my skin than the waxer.

I get a brazilian wax done regularly every four to five weeks.  It's best if the hair is a on the longer side but don't let it get too long otherwise it will hurt more!  Also, try to avoid having it done the week before your period since it does make your skin more sensitive.  I think everyone is differnt in terms of how painful it is.  When I spoke to my girlfriends before my first time, the responses ranged from "the worst pain ever" to "whatever".  I didn't think it was that bad (i.e., definitely not the most painful thing ever) but it's not exactly comfortable either.  I keep on going back!

@Miss Calculator:  Brazilian is all off, which includes the behind (but I leave a little landing strip).  Bikini waxes can mean anything from a "french" bikini which is all off the front but excludes the behind or just the 2 to 3 inches along the leg line.  I personally like the results of the brazilian but it's all about personal choice and preference.  You can always try the regular bikini wax if you are uncomfortable with the thought of a brazilian and see how you feel about it after.

I am going to go for the underarm wax.  I will deal with a few weeks of unshaved underarms and will let you all know how it goes!  Thanks for the advice!

@ Mary-alice-me  - I only have 3.5 weeks left. Do you really recommend waxing now before to test?

Ok Underarms are awesome to wax, the gross part is growing it out to be long enough to wax it. It's gotta be really long for a really good wax. It's so worth it, no stubble, hair grows in softer. I love doing it.

The bikini, also needs to be grown out for a long time. it hurts, i'm not gonna lie, also you have to worry about ingrown hairs, which i'm prone too, but if your waxer does it right, it won't be as bad.

I think the biggest key is growing it out as long as you can so the wax is clean and even. Hairs grow at different rates,  so they all have to be long enough to pull. Once you get on a schedule of waxing, it will train the hair to grow almost at the same time. You'll never wanna go back

Definately do a trial run beforehand...make sure you don't have a bad reaction.  Also, then you can tell how long it will take to grow out.

Also go to a place that uses hard brazilian wax not soft wax with strips.  It hurts a whole lot less and lasts a lot longer.

I would recommend doing it about four days in advance.

@Miss Calculator, I would recommend getting the brazilian done if you're already going to get a bikini wax.  The part that makes it brazilian, believe it or not, is the least painful part.

I was terrified of my first professional bikini wax and experimented the month before with a take home kit.  I discovered that when I trim my hair to 1/4" and pull the skin super-tight, it doesn't hurt nearly as badly.  I second the Advil recommendation.  Mine started growing back about 5-7 days after.  Watch out; it itches. :)
