right now i have the cough, runny nose and headache….FH is on his way with cough & cold meds but i swear i think i’ve become immune to them….
any remedies, suggestions advice?? i really want to beat this sickness this time and get rid of it before christmas day…. i hope :-/
p.s. i dont really like tea otherwise i’d drink some to help my throat 🙁

i rely on sleep and oj when i feel a cold coming on!

Zicam! Only the ones you swab in your nose though. Hope you feel better 🙂

Sleep! OJ & since you don’t like tea, try putting some lemon & honey in hot water. The heat really helps. Also, if you boil some water and then sit over it with a towel over your head the steam helps your sinuses. Hope you feel better soon!

Avoiding the dreaded cold….tips?
i got some good tips over there–especially the ginger tea. yummy. i ended up getting my husband’s cold about a week late….BUT i didn’t get it near as bad as he did. I slept i off and I actually feel pretty good, just a little case of the sniffles and a cough. Lots of sleep was really, really helpful. i’ve always been doing sinus rinses.

Take zinc! Also, Emergen-C makes little “shots” of vitamins and immune system boosters. Those things really helped me out when I got the WORST cold ever.

I usually load up on Vitamin-C and that seems to nip it in the bud.

OH yeah I tried that ginger tea thing last night .. because of the tickle … and NO TICKLE TODAY and i feel good!!!

Both zinc and vitamin C have been debunked as cold remedies (I work in drug development and have read the studies). Your best bet is to get some rest and make sure you take good expectorants (like mucinex, sudafed, etc) to make sure the cold doesn’t transform into an infection. Feel better!

Weird, I had no idea! Good info. They always seem to help me when I get sick… maybe a placebo effect? Haha.
Get better MamaHusky! No one should be sick for Christmas!

@CaraMia10: I LOVE ZICAM! It’s killed so many colds for me. I live in CA, so the nose swab ones are illegal now, but i love the ‘chew tablets’…they taste like bubble gum 🙂

@MamaHusky3:This is what works for me: Eat a hot cup of chicken noodle soup with lots of black perrper, drink a glass of all natural OJ, take a cold medicine and sleep a minimum of 10 hours. I wake up the next day feeling like a million bucks!

ditto the cold medicine–my doc says to take sudafed cold and sinus twice a day! i totally forgot about it until this morning though–although i actually need it now =]
