    Hi Ladies!  Ok, I'm a horrible book club host.  First it took me forever to make the choice,  then I haven't even read the book!  I've been super sick for the past 3 days and haven't gotten out of bed.  I'm so sorry.  So, if someone wants to take over for this month, please feel free.  I'm so sorry ladies!!!

    For those of you who aren't slackers, please discuss the first 6 chapters...

    Oh Candy Nee...I hope you feel better!!!  I don't know if I want to take on the hostess role this month, but I can get the discussion started.

    First, on a side note...One thing I am finding slightly irritating it the authors over-use of references to the time.  I understand "setting the scene" but I am too young to know what she is talking about half the time!  Is anyone wondering if we would have enjoyed this book in a different way if we were born in the 60's?

    Were you the "Tully" or the "Katie" in high school, or what was your role?  Does this book bring back insecurities from adolescence?  I'm not sure I was either.  I was one of the kids who was kind of in the middle...had my friends, but was not nerdy or super-popular.  I do remember thinking about how all the popular kids were probably at some kick-ass party while I was watching a boring movie at my friend's house.  I was a little envious of the kids with the "cool" parents who let them do what they want.  I wonder how many of them had lonely lives like Tully.  Or if they wished their parents cared more?

    @Candy- feel better soon, doll!!!

    @heathaah- I could not put this book down! I have under 100 pages left... it was just a quick read for me! But I agree... I wasn't born anywhere near the 60's so it was hard for me to wrap my head around that. And I would have to agree with you again.... I was neither Tully nor Kate, but more in the middle of them. My parents were more lenient with me than they were with my older sister, so I'm grateful for that. I never saw Kate as a rebellious child. To me, she just seemed more on the shy side and would do anything to fit in. I'm glad that Tully brought her out of her shell.

    i definitely agree with you on the 60s references. i have no idea what theyre talking about either. but i do like the book other than that. i don't think i was either one of the girls. i guess most of us tend to fall somewhere in the middle.

    Which book are you reading? From the references, it sounds like Firefly Lane which is a great book!

    I'd like to join the book club for next month if I can find the book at a local library. Sounds like fun and I'd really like to get some inspiration to get my life back on track haha!

    i finally sat down last night and finished the book! i cried like a baby. it was such a beautiful story!

    SPOILERRRRRR! DONT READ THE REST UNLESS YOURE FINISHED :)

    The more i read the book, the more i disliked tully. i hate how she treated kate and how she was always wrong but kate always apologized. And it really got under my skin that she was always talking to marah about kate. & undermining what kate said. i absolutely loved kate's character. her and johnny's relationship was beautiful and i hated that she felt like she was his second choice.

    i think that ends my rant for now :)

    I'm still interested in the WBBC!  I think I have some free time this month (April) to finally have time to read a book.

    I haven't been following this who book club thing til.... today!  So I don't know what all goes into moderating.  I might be interested.

    I disliked a lot of Tully's actions too...but they are understandable considering her upbringing.  She doesn't really understand the mother-daughter relationship, maybe.  But yes, even when Mrs. M told her to basically cut it out with Marah, Tully continued to undermine Kate.

    If I were Kate, I honestly don't think I could have married Johnny.  The way she caught him looking at Tully during the reception?  I would not have been strong enough to handle that.  Their relationship kind of bugged me.  I thought Kate deserved better.  He was a great person...but I mean someone more into her and her only.

    The end was great.  Imagine the closing scene being played out in a movie?  Powerful.

    I've been out for the last week or so!! I would love to still keep up with the book club! I really liked Firefly Lane, but I would have to agree that I couldn't handle the relationship that Johnny and Tully had. What an awkward thing for Kate to have to deal with. Do you think it'll be made into a movie? I definitely think it has the potential!
