To answer your first question YES I think we should read straight through (if we haven't already that is ;). It is an AWESOME book, so that sounds great to me. Side note: I won't be here next week, out of town, so I can't check in. You all will have to carry on without me! *sigh*
PROLOGUE- I REALLY wish he hadn't started it off like that. I don't want to know what happens at the end UNTIL I GET TO THE END!
Chapter 1 - Wow. When he jumped into the ocean for her purse *swoon* that was soooo gentlemanly :) (is that a word?) lol.
Chapter 2 - I loved the fact he was protective of her. I'm a sucker for that stuff anyways though. About Tim, I think there were some feelings there, but more in a brother-sister type of way. I can see how John would be jealous though because of their close relationship. I thought it was cool though that even though John didn't want to like Tim, Tim just had one of those personalities that made him likeable & John couldn't help it.
Chapter 3 - My "release" is reading. I love getting lost in a book.
Unfortunately, I don't have the book with me right now (& I have read ahead) so I don't want to comment to much. That's why I'm just going off of your questions, so I don't give anything away!
BTW - Nicolas Sparks writes BEAUTIFULLY. He REALLY knows how to write. It's not sloppy and it FLOWS. I know that sounds weird, but some authors just don't know how to do that! Just something I noticed :)
I think we should read straight through, it's kind of hard to put down!
Prologue- I'm not happy with the way that it started out, I don't like having a hint of what is going to happen towards the end. I think that it makes you wait for it to drop and at least for me.
Chapter 1- I think that John hates being alone because of his childhood. Even though his father was there he still didn't have a whole lot of communication with people. His mom being gone may be an underlying issue. I absolutely loved that he helped Savannah by jumping into the water, that was soo cute and chivalrous.
Chapter 2- Usuallyan immediate protectiveness level like John's bugs me but because of the POV I really understood that he felt protective and couldn't understand why he felt so strongly to protect her. I think that Tim is interested in Savannah, but I think that he is more of brother to her so he doesn't persue the feelings he has for her and instead acts like a brotherly figure.
Added question for Chapter 2- do you think Randy is going to have some sort of negative impact on Savannah and John?
Chapter 3- I'm like queenbee, I love to read to have a release. I love getting lost in a good book. I also enoy crafting and crocet when I need to have a release but that doesn't always work, reading usually does.
-How do you think the first date is going to go for Savannah and John?
@okqueenbee- Sad that you won't be here next week :[ But we'll catch you up when you come back!! I, too, agree that Nicholas Sparks is an incredible writer. He really knows how to capture his audience, which is awesome. I like that it's not choppy and that it flows well.
@FutureMrsTal- I almost want to think that John was so quick to protect her because he's in the service, but wouldn't he protect everyone the same way?! They definitely have an incredible relationship from the very beginning.
Answer to question in Ch. 2- I don't know if Randy will come back or not. Being that the Prologue gave away the ending, I've been wondering who Savannah will end up with. Maybe Tim? Or possibly Randy? I hope he doesn't cause problems... I like Savannah and John together!!
I would have to agree with both of you that reading is a release for me as well. I can get so lost in a book and block out everything else that's going on in my life... I love escaping to a whole new world through reading!
I, too, have been wondering about Savannah and John's first date. I wonder what they'll do... where they'll go. I know she's anxious to meet his dad, but he's not ready for that yet. I think they'll hit it off even more. John is way beyond into her, and Savannah is just as cute as ever. I wish they were together!!
@ Miss Chocolate- I am kind of curious as to why she wants to meet John's dad. I mean I understand wanting to meet your SO parents but it seemed a little odd to me, like there is more to it. Any thoughts?
I agree with reading it straight through. I actually read 11 chapters this week.
But next Wednesday I have a research paper due so since I read ahead I shouldn't get behind.
I was really annoyed with the prologue. It was almost like, why read and get my hopes up if they are just going to be heartbroken! I am hoping that there is more to the story after the prologue though.
I think John hated being alone so much because he always was. His mother was gone and he does not communicate with his father very well, so there was no one for him to talk to.
I definitely think Tim is interested in Savannah but she does not see him that way. I think it is a little weird and intense that John was so protective of her so quickly. I guess I'm not a romantic and don't believe in instant attraction, expecially that strong. I definitely don't trust that Randy character.
I am going to have to echo y'all and say that reading is my escape as well. Unless I am really mad about something and can't concentrate, then I will go for a walk or turn on some mindless reality tv show so that I can think.
@FutureMrsTal- I wonder if there's something up with her family? Or maybe with her dad? I, too, was curious about that. She seemed to push the subject quickly!!
@tbk- I also felt that John's instant protectiveness over Savannah was a little too intense. How could he feel that way so quickly? And maybe Randy will give us a run for our money... I was kind of hoping that he would be out of the picture, but maybe not. I also hope that the story gets better. I kicked myself for reading the Prologue, though I know it introduces the story. I don't want the heartbreak!! Especially after all of this sweet stuff they're going through together.
I also agree we should read it straight thru and discuss.
The Savannah and John's dad thing was really weird, I was just kind of like ok I don't understand where this is going.
John getting Savannah's bag was great, I loved that it was so sweet!
John being immediately protective of Savannah didnt bother me but it may have been because of the POV.
I'm with everyone else, reading is my release I can just let go and be anywhere.
Oh my goodness I am so sorry to jump in here but anyone mind if I run to the store tomorrow and buy this? My LAST DAY(!!!!!!!!!!) of work EVER (well, at this job lol) is Friday. I want to jump in and catch up :)
let me know? I'm so sorry to barge!
@ Sulli - I don't know about everyone else, but I don't mind :) (I don't think they will either ;) We just started reading it around the end of last week, and we were just discussing the first 3 chapters, but it sounds like we might just be going ahead and reading it the whole way thru. You should definately be able to catch up. It goes fast!
@okqueen
thanks ;)
I have tomorrow free for the most part of the day...I'll go get it first thing (after sleepin in a tad hehe)
@Sulli- Welcome!!! The book is an easy read... We just did the first 3 chapters, and will do another check in next week to see how everyone is doing. We decided to read the rest of the book because that's how awesome it is! You just can't put it down ;] We'll be doing a new book every month with someone different hosting the book club (that way everyone gets a turn!)
So WBBC- Another check-in next Wednesday? We'll see how everyone is doing, what we think up to wherever everyone else read to?
<3
As I was reading, I actually (at first) got slightly annoyed with Savannah's "perfectness." I was sort of thinking about the mind of the author, thinking "is this his idea of an ideal woman?...how unrealistic!" But then it hit me....
This is written from John's viewpoint. This is his subjective image of Savannah. All of the "perfection" is in his eyes. and it is a beautiful thing! Does this make sense?? Did anyone else consider this?
heathahh, I never considered that, but I think you are totally right.
@heathaah- Completely!! I started burning through this book yesterday, and that's all I could think of... Wow. He must think she can walk on water! But I agree that I think it's more of John's perception. He thinks she's perfect in every way. Cute!
So, I wasn't able to check in until now ( I started the book late.) But... heathaah, what a great point. I never thought of it that way, but it makes great sense. this is a great book, and I've read way ahead... so I'll check in with ya'll tomorrow. (I think I'm gonna finish the book tonight) :)

Hello lovelies! Happy Wednesday!!
I have to admit, I'm pretty psyched about this book club. It gives me something else to do that isn't wedding or work related and I love that. Not saying that I don't also love the other 2 ;]
Ok, so first 3 chapters!! Woo!! I have to admit, it was hard for me to stop. Is anyone opposed to just read through it and have a check in next week? Is that too soon for everyone?! I'm having a hard time putting it down! But I know that not everyone is able to read straight through, so we can always do the next few chapters and have another check-in. Let me know your thoughts and ideas!
I'll start up the discussion- Feel free to add to it, ask questions, etc!
*The Prologue- Is John giving away the ending already?! Saying that he and Savannah aren't together?! Huh?????!
*Chapter 1- Why do you think he hated being alone so much? Do you think it's maybe because his Mama left when he was a baby? ........ Doesn't everyone wish someone would come to their rescue like he did for Savannah? How cute was that?!
*Chapter 2- How did everyone feel about John being so immediately protective of Savannah at the bonfire? Do you think that Tim is interested in Savannah in "that way"? What about Savannah to Tim?
*Chapter 3- What is everyone's "release"? Savannah had her horses, John had his surfing. What allows you to go off to another place to relax and think? ....... I had never heard of the term "gooseflesh" before. I laughed out loud on that!! .......... And I couldn't agree more with the idea of happiness is infectious. I get excited for other bees on here that just got their dress or shoes. You can feel peoples excitement through words or in person. I love it!! I'm addicted to happiness!!
Ok, bees! GO! <3
