I just got the call from my mother, my beloved great aunt, and matriarch of our family is in renal failure. We will be heading to her town, three hours away on Tuesday to say our goodbyes. She is the one lady who can set me in my place with the raise of an eyebrow and the one who can make me laugh the hardest. She is the last of her generation, she took the place of grandmother when my grandmother, her sister, passed in the early 90’s. I am crushed. She learned how to use the computer so she could FB and skype with my mom and I. I just cant imagine a week without her calling me “Tiffy”, she was the only one to ever get away with calling me that. The last few months my conversations have been very short with her, she has been so busy with her bingo calling and dates (yeah, she was still dating like a college girl at 90!). The last big conversation I had with her was before my wedding when we went out to see her because she wouldn’t be able to come because it was too far for her). I was showing her pics of my dress and pics of the details. I talked to her about registering and she just raised an eyebrow at me and said “you have your grandmothers china, I see no need for you to register”, she was so old fashioned and such a LADY in every aspect of the word. I had the good fortune to have her pass that on to me. I will miss her dearly.
Sorry for going on and on, Darling Husband is working overnight and can’t be reached.

Ohhhh…..I am sooo sorry to hear this!!! I am 36 and within the past 2 years I have lost my father, 2 grandfathers, grandmother and step-grandfather. I understand feeling like it is the ‘end of and era’…My Grandmother was like a 2nd mother to me growing up and I was crushed when she was’nt well enough to come to my (1s’t) wedding 5 years ago. She passed a year later. I feel the same way about her as you do your great aunt….they were such LADIES!!!

Sorry to hear that! Hold on to the memories and remember her the way she was. It is never easy to see someone who was such a force so diminished. Drive safe and I hope you are able to say everything that you want to.
