After WEEKS of researching we finally booked our honeymoon!! We wanted a nice balance of relaxation, activities, and a hotel with all of the creature comforts but still romantic and somewhat secluded- not an easy feat! Without further ado, we’re honeymooning at *drumroll please*…..:
The Tides Riviera Maya in Playa Del Carmen!!!
The resort is actually located on Xcalacoco beach, about 15 minutes from Playa but it’s close enough to still be considered a Playa hotel. All of the rooms include a private plunge pool and an outdoor moon shower- can we say, HECK YES!!! Since Playa is so close, we’re planning on taking a cab into town for dinner and eating breakfast/lunch at the hotel to cut down on costs. As for excursions, we’ve got quite the itinerary! Xel-Ha to swim with the manatees, The Jungle Place (which is a spider monkey sanctuary where you can actually hold and feed the monkeys!), Akumal bay to swim with the turtles, Dos Ojos cenote to snorkel, zip lining in Tulum, Yal-Ku lagoon to snorkel, and then hopefully horseback riding on Maroma beach.
For our flight, hotel, food, excursions and all other misc. costs, our total is going to be under 5K!!! The Tides is having a 30% off special right now so if any brides are looking for a non all-inclusive hotel in Playa, you gotta check them out. The rates for the hotel per night are definitely not the cheapest, (experienced some sticker shock at first!) but even with the cab fares and costs of dining in Playa, it’s going to be cheaper than staying at an all-inclusive. I’m so excited, I had to share!!
And thanks for reading my ramble Hive- I tend to get *VERY* excited about things!

Thank you so much everyone!! This will be my first vacation on my own (well not really since it’s with Fiance but I think you know what I mean haha) so I’m giddy beyond words!
chickeybarr: Oooh, we were seriously considering Maroma! But we really wanted to try out more of the local food so we opted out of an AI, but I’ve heard some amazing things about Secrets 🙂

I have been to the Tides. It’s very unique!
Here’s the thing you need to know about that resort. When they built the hotel down the road, they tore the heck out of the road that leads to The Tides. When we were there in late 2009, the took us down an unpaved road riddled with potholes to get to the resort. There were some pretty scarry looking things down that road, and if it were not for the fact that we were with an AMEX rep that we had been with for a couple of days, we probably would have been afraid for our lives. If you haven’t done so already, I would recommend that you arrange for a transfer to and from the hotel with your travel agent, rather than doing a cab to the hotel. The hotel down the street has been completed since we were there, but I do not know what the status is of the road.
But once you get to the resort it’s stunning. The little huts are beautiful-the spa to die for. Each hut has a private entrance, and when you’re walking around the resort you see little coves to hide out everywhere. We had a cocktail while we were there that was great.
There’s a fantastic restaurant in Playa where they do a fireshow in the evening. You have to check it out while you’re there.
There’s some photos of the resort on our Facebook page.
Have a wonderful time!

@Bliss Honeymoons: Oh yep, I read about the road on TripAdvisor. Not looking forward to it! But fortunately we already booked our airport transfers using Cancun Transfers, so the trip there should be nice and easy. I’m hoping taking the cab to and from Playa for dinner won’t be too bad. Do you remember the name of the restaurant in Playa? The fire show sounds amazing!
@europomme: Yay for Riviera Maya!! I’ve only even been to Cozumel so I’m excited to see the mainland 🙂

@saraswati I think it’s called the Blue Parrott.

Yes, the fire show at Blue Parrot is amazing! I believe they do the same show earlier in the night at Fusion.
