Congrats on the new home!! And getting what you want in this insane market :)

As for the cat dander issue… you might end up having to replace the carpet, which it sounds like you are prepared for, but everything else you’re planning on doing could end up being enough. My friend bought a home that had a dog and her son is extremely allergic so they had a cleaning crew come in and they didn’t have any issues. Another tip is to get the blinds all cleaned (the kind where they take them out and really clean them) and wash all of the curtains.

you’ll need to completely replace the carpet. the dander settles in, and vaccuming brings it back. it’s the safest way, and while it’s a lot of money output, it is much better than being miserable.

Congratulations, what a stunning house. As per above, cleaning crew should sort it, if not, new carpets probably. I remember when we moved when I was a kid my parents had to get new carpets as a dog lived there previously and no matter how much my Mum cleaned me Dad’a asthma and allergies were still bad. Good luck hope the cleaning crew does the trick.

I was also going to mention – if you do end up having to go with new flooring, check Home Depot. My ex was in renovations and they always had decent carpet/hardwood/tile, etc. for way cheaper than all of the other places.

Don’t forget to change the air filters, or better yet, pay for a service to have the ducts cleaned out thoroughly before you even change them. Congrats on the new place 🙂

Don’t forget the window coverings, window screens, walls, and ceilings. There are professional allergen cleaning companies. I’m not 100% certain what they do or how it works, but the last apartment I lived in had cats and they did that, along with replacing the flooring and I was fine. My allergies are quite severe too.
