Congrats!!! Your home is beauuuutiful!!! I would have loved a new build but we have a similar issue with new builds in my area, very small lots. They tend to split lots and build 2 new ones. So not much room is leftover!

As far as landscaping goes…I can’t really help since I have quite a large backyard. But I did buy my house with DH before he was DH. We were about 4 months out from our wedding when we closed. It was a simple thing to change my name….call the mortgage company and they will send you paper work to change your name, you send it back and that’s done. As far as title, keep your title officers contact info and contact them after you get your social security card and DL changed. They will be able to draw up a new deed for you and your husband to sign. If there are any weird things with your county, they will know. And they should be able to file it with the county also. It cost me about $40 to re file ours. Not too bad!

applecat:  Gorgeous home! Congratulations! Don’t worry about the landscaping until you have lived in the house for  while. Even if a deck takes up a large part of the yard, your DH may appreciate not having to mow a large lawn.

When you can post a personal pic of the backyard, you wil get more specific suggestions.

applecat:  LOVE that house. Great curb appeal. Oh, and that kitchen makes me want to throw a million dinner parties.

Wow that kitchen is to die for! Congratulations on such a beautiful home! 😀

Sorry I don’t have any advice to offer since I’ve never bought a house before.

Me and my SO bought a house together before marriage and we asked our lawyer about what to do when we get married.  He told us that we could leave it as is or change the title to reflect tue name change. Not sure how much work it is to change title but I think we will when time comes.

applecat:  I’m not sure where you are.  But I’m in Ontario and I was told by our broker, our lawyer and our sales rep that changing the name wasn’t a big issue (yes, I asked all 3!)

Changing a name isn’t a big deal.

As as far as landscaping goes I would suggest making flower beds or decrotive shrubs in front, lined with pavers and mulch. It’s more upkeep but so much less work and it looks nicer. We have a large more rounded bed with several small shrubs, some smaller flowers, black mulch and a few peices of limestone set in to break it up a bit. Find a local landscape company that you like and give them direction but take their suggestions as well. Get a good company for weed control and keep your grass nice. I’m bias, however, because that’s what my SO does as a small business owner.

The house is beautiful, congrats!

We closed on our first home the day before our wedding.  Changing your name and marital status is as simple as a phone call to the mortgage dealer.  You will just have to send them a copy of your marriage license or new state-issued ID
