Not the FI and I. He’s hiding on his computer a few feet away.
My ring and I have broken up. We had to part ways, and this was for the best. At least that’s what I’m telling myself, on repeat like a broken record.
I haven’t been engaged for long. Barely a few months. FI suprised me with a lovely diamond ring, even though I had specifically asked for moissanite. He ordered the ring from the UK, and had it shipped here to Canada.
It sounds so romantic in print. Alas it did not work out, so it is now back in the UK.
First the ring needed resized. FI clearly gave them my ring size, and the ring was huge. So we went through the huge rigmarole of sending the ring back to Europe to have it adjusted. We get the ring back two weeks later, and it’s too small. Like, wayyyy too small. It didn’t fit on my pinky, and I do not have large fingers. Back to the UK my ring goes, only to come back with a missing diamond.
My ring had a 90 day return policy, and we have decided to return it.
I’m a combination of depressed and excited. I’ve accepted that my ring was simply a lost cause. It wasn’t meant to be. I’ve also decided to make a surprisingly responsible financial decision:
I’m going to get a moissanite ring.
Original E-ring was over 20k. To me, that is just wasteful. While I realize that there are Bees on here who are way more financially stable than I am (Hello, 30k/year tuition), it felt irresponsible to accept such an expensive “gift” from my FI. He has a great job, but I do not. I’m still a student. We just bought a condo, I attend the most expensive school in the country, and I just didn’t need it. I almost felt guilty wearing it. Again, I’m not trying to offend the Bees with expensive rings. Wow, I love everyone’s rings, regardless of their price tag. My ring just wasn’t meant for me. To be honest, I wasn’t wearing it that often anyways. I was so terrified of losing it, that it was appearing less and less often on my finger.
I apologize for rambling, but I’m trying to justify the “loss” of my first engagement ring.
I ordered a moissanite E-ring last night from moissaniteco (with the Amora enhancement). Hopefully it turns out as well as I have imagined it! I really am excited, it’s literally one-twentieth of the cost of my first ring, and it looks sooo pretty online.
Has anyone else had to replace their first E-ring, for any reasons? (Feel free to provide pictures, so I can ogle your rings).
