My FI’s grandparents offered us their timeshare for our honeymoon! They have a one week timeshare in which they normally go to Aruba. FI and I went with them once and had a great time, but I’m not so sure I’d want to go there for our honeymoon. His Nana said that we can pretty much go anywhere with it, so my question to you guys is — where should we go?! We want somewhere warm and tropical where we can just relax and spend quality time with each other.
Suggestions? If you’ve already been on your honeymoon and had a great experience at a particular resort, I’d love recommendations! Or if you’ve just been to a particular island and loved it, any advice would help! 🙂

Go somewhere you may never get to go if you had to pay full price! We are looking at same thing. I hear the Canary Islands has wonderful weather all year and it’s beautiful! That’s on our plate with other options like Belize

My parents gave us the same thing. They are part of a timeshare/vacation club and gave us one week anywhere in the world (as long as it is part of RCI, or whatever it’s called).
We chose to go to the Hard Rock Resort in Punta Cana. You should look it up. It’s absolutely STUNNING… and that is an understatement.

I recommend the Great Barrier Reef (I stayed on Hamilton Island, which was nice and very close to the Whitsundays), Hawaii, French Polynesia, the Red Sea (Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt are good beach destinations, though Sharm el-Sheikh is a bit more busy than I’d like), the Greek islands, Phuket, or Cabo. I’ve been told that Croatian beaches are fantastic, though I’ve never personally been. Phuket and Great Barrier Reef have those really awesome ~98%silica sand beaches, which exfoliates your skin as you relax!
I would definitely recommend finding a place that you would not normally be able to go to on your own (be it time or budget constraints) w/o the timeshare offer.

Thanks for the input! I suggested the same thing to my fiancé.. go somewhere we wouldn’t normally be able to go, and somewhere we’ve never been before. But he’s stuck on Aruba because he says we know the island and would be able to get around without any problems. I loved Aruba, but for our honeymoon, I’m not crazy about how busy the island is. I’m going to look into all your suggestions and maybe I can convince him 🙂

What about the Azores? They are stunning, and culturally very interesting. Also, they are closer than mainland Europe!

@heatherrobyn: I just looked it up. You’re right, that place looks amazing! Your date says January 1st, does that mean you’re already back? If so, how was it?! Anything you didn’t like about it?

My cousin offered us the same- a week at their timeshare which is usually in Aruba. So funny! We traded for a week in the south of Spain. Can’t wait!

You will want to see what is available first. Depending on who has booked, the level of room they have and other items not all resorts or locations will be available.
I would think about a region you want to go to and then call the people or check out online what is available.
We are going to Bali on timeshare weeks.
