We eloped! Long story short, we are several years apart in age & this is both our second marriages (mine was abusive, his was cold & based on money). Because of that, everyone had opinions about how the wedding should go, when it should be, what we should do, etc. It was causing both of us a lot of stress. My cousin/bridesmaid drama that I posted about recently was weighing on my mind about somehow our wedding wasn’t going to be special or sacred just bc we’ve been divorced. Plus I’m finishing nursing school & need to leave some focus for that, and basically, we just wanted to be married!! Lots of reasons! So we got up this morning, made an appointment with a magistrate at the courthouse, I picked up a little bouquet, and my sister & brother came to be our witnesses. My Mom & Dad caught wind of it & snuck in, too. 😉 Just like that we are married and happy as can be! Both of us cried and it was a lot more intimate and romantic than I thought a courthouse wedding would be.
We had already booked a venue, photographer, & bought a dress (today I wore a blue dress bc my Nana got married in blue), so we’re still having a big party in September. We changed the invitations to say, “With warmth & joy we invite you to celebrate our marriage,” instead of “witness our marriage.” And instead of, “reception to follow” it says, “Come for the love, stay for the party!” We said our legal vows today but still plan to say our written ones that day. So now our guests (particularly opinionated family) don’t have to feel obligated to come just bc it’s our wedding (since we already got married!!) and just those that really want to & those that love & support us can come. ❤ We are so happy! Here are a couple pics my sis took! (It won’t let me upload cropped versions.) Just had to share our day with the bees. 🙂
