@Shonzilla:  I think everyone has these thoughts so don’t feel alone! The amount of money for one day does seem crazy!

Money is a huge factor about weddings.     You go to a shop and mention Wedding and it’s $$$$$$ in the sellers eyes.   We all have thoughts about this.   It’s only a few months away just try to relax and come back to planning after a little bit of time away from it.

13 months away and you’re already stressing? I would just elope.. maybe just have a big celebration at home.. more of a party instead of a reception.

I would elope and have a home celebration – the best of both worlds!

If you think 20 years in the future, no one will remember the specific details of your wedding, but 15-20k will make a big difference to your future! Like some other bees have said elope and have a much cheaper but still as special celebration when you return with your friends & family 🙂

@jenilynevette:  I agree. It’s too far out to be so stressed.

@Shonzilla:  is there any way you could have the same wedding but on a much smaller budget? then you could still have a wedding with your loved ones but without sacrificing so much of your future ?

Since family isn’t paying for the wedding, they really have no say.  If having what family wants will affect your house purchase and having children, you need to really think about what you want.  Maybe rather than have the “expected wedding” you could have a smaller family backyard wedding.  I have seen so many beautiful backyard weddings here on the Bee.  I had an elegant intimate wedding the first time around (nowadays it would be called a destination wedding) with under 25 people.  The second time around, it was a short, but sweet, trip to the courthouse, with an elegant dinner afterwards.  Our wedding guests for this wedding consisted of 3 family members.  I guess what I am trying to say is don’t despair, there are options out there for you!
