My friend Becca lives in Chicago and her apartment looks almost identical. Very cute!! Tons of character! I love it!
that's really cute - i love courtyards!
and congratulations on finally finding something that you love!
Thanks everyone! We're so relieved to have found it because everywhere else felt like we'd be settling big-time, either in regards to neighborhood or unit. This place is small (probably 600 sq feet or so) but I love the layout and the feel of it, so it's worth it!
The one problem now is that since we've lived with another couple for the past two years, there are some kitchen/living essentials that we don't have, like a toaster, etc, and our dinnerware, etc, are all hand me downs that are now cracking. Plus our couch won't fit in the living room, so we'll have to find a used one, which means we'll be really broke for awhile!
Holy cow, it's gorgeous!! And when you said it was small and then said it's 600 sq ft, I almost died. I would love 600 sq ft. FI and I are way too used to being trapped in my 150 sq ft dorm room. Congrats on the great find! I am so jealous.
@veganglam - haha, well it might be 550 or so, I'm bad at guessing! But it seems absolutely perfect to us since we have 4 people in a 700 sq foot 2 bedroom right now. Which is huge compared to the 4 people we had in the 600 sq foot apartment last year!
Honestly, I think we just got really lucky. I can't even tell you how many sh*tholes we walked through before this one. Because it's one woman renting out her condo, she was much more reasonable than the management companies.
I'm glad you got your housing situation figured out! Did that other one definitely fall through, then?
@lilyfaith: Well, she told us we were her second pick because we don't currently have a car and her dog might need to go to the vet on emergency or something. But they haven't told her yet whether they're definitely taking her up on the deal, and we'll know for sure on Tuesday. It will be a lot of work but we would definitely save a lot of money if watched her house instead of doing the apartment thing all year. Sigh.
@veganglam - aw, I hope you get it! Some cities have pet ambulance services, by the way. We have a car here, but we didn't always and we seriously looked into it in case we ever needed it. I couldn't see a cab taking kindly to a sick kitty.
Soooo now I have to restrain myself from decorating because we're so broke! Haha. Perfect apartment, but it'll be kind of empty for a few months while we save up?
oh congrats!! it looks so cute! what a nice home you 2 will have :D
Yeah 600 sq feet is not small! Ours is 500 + patio for $1200 per month (month to month, it used to be $1150) and nowhere near as pretty! CONGRATS! I love it! :)
That is an absoluelty adorable apartment! Congrats on finding such a cute apartment.
-After reading other bees comments I cant believe how much things are different in the midwest. I live in a 1300 sq foot 3 bedroom 2 bath with a fireplace and I was complaining about having to pay 650/mo.
@jslsbride62610 - well, we're paying $1275/month with no patio or balcony, so not so different!
@shannon - I know, haha, there is such a difference! Our parents don't understand city prices so when they hear how much our rent is they wonder why we're not getting a better deal. I would love to pay only $650/month for any apartment!
Hooray! Congratulations! It looks gorgeous! And I'm sure you'll find ways to decorate and make it homey without a bunch of cash.
LOL I would TOTALLY give up the unmaintained and mostly unused patio area for something that looks like THAT! Ours is like basically a kitchen area with combined living room and then a wall and then the bedroom which connects to the bathroom. BUT it's much better than the studio we used to live in (about 300 square feet no parking 1225/mo in a not so great building in waikiki, parking an extra 175/mo) so I can't complain! If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about decorating (although I can see how that would be hard!) because the place looks great already. Aren't you so excited to not have another couple living with you?! I would be! :)
@jslsbride62610 yes! that's the best part. I can't wait to be able to walk around with my hair all messy wearing whatever pajamas I want (or none... haha) and not have to worry about doing dishes in the morning, etc. Plus they haven't been paying bills on time, which is such a burden on us.
I think decorating is the wrong word, though... I'm more looking for essential furniture, like a couch, a bookshelf, etc. Things that we need rather than the little touches, which I can mostly do for cheap.
Our parking is $200/month right now, it sucks! I think that we're going to try to find permit parking next year instead though, because we can't afford an extra $200 on top of rent every month. The only problem with permit parking is there are all sorts of snow restrictions, etc, and you're not guaranteed a spot.
Congrats! I missed this thread the other day. It is such a cute place, I love the character!
adorable! where in the chicago area did you finding such a gem! ;)
@missjyc - Seriously, right? I still cannot get over that this is in Lakeview. It's actually on the border of Lakeview and Lincoln Park, so we're close to the Zoo as well. This place puts all the other ones we saw to shame!
@OttawaBride2011 - thanks! That's one of the things we loved about it, too. Although there is an updated kitchen and bathroom, everything else is original.
Thanks everyone - I just wanted to add an update that we've been officially approved! Yay!
And I have to say we're dodging a freaking bullet. The roommates are in a will-they, won't-they break up situation right now. Let's just hope they both stick around long enough to pay rent through the lease end.

We still have to finalize things, but we are applying to rent this adorable little condo in our current neighborhood - it's even in a beautiful courtyard building! The owner's fiance is actually one of the Psych professors at my school, which is so random.
It's a little out of what we wanted to pay, but there are free washers and dryers, and we can get permit parking instead of paying for garage parking. It's so worth it to us!
