woah... you're planning fast! Glad you found a venue; since you're booking now, can you ask for this year's rates? I've heard that sometimes works.
Otherwise ask them to create a proposal within your budget rather than just choosing from their set menu maybe?

YES!! Just when I thought we'd have to give up on our March 26th date, we found a place that will fit our ever-growing guest list (inviting close to 600 people so far, and the max capacity of most ballrooms in town is 300).
The downside is that they had plans to raise their per-person catering prices by 15-20% next year. That will kill some parts of our budget as 15% times 400+ people is HUGE. Any tips for negotiatiing?
In other news, our engagement party is on January 2nd (and there are 3 additional nights of formalities...two this week, and one next week). I don't have a dress. And our guest list has grown from 40 (able to fit in my parents house), to 80+. WTF. Need to find another damn venue. @$*@#)(%&!!!!!
