So my fiance and I have been wanting a pet for a long time, but our last place didn’t allow animals, and even in our new place, we simply don’t have time to take care of a puppy like we’d need to. We’ve discussed cats before, but I was hesitant because I grew with a cat but was allergic the whole time (something I didn’t discover until after that kitty passed on and I could breathe all of a sudden), and I’ve definitely had some serious sneezes at friends’ houses with cats.
Friday night we started discussing getting a cat in earnest again, and then Saturday morning we turned on the TV and the very first thing we saw was a local news segment about the “Whiskers in Wonderland” adoption fair that was going on that afternoon! We figured it was a sign, and went by and met a bunch of wonderful kittens. But as soon as we met our new kitty, we were just comparing every other kitten to her hehe. We both realized she was the one for us, and went back to her booth and adopted her from a great local foster agency.
This is our Lyra (named after the main character of one of our favorite books, The Golden Compass). She is SUCH a cuddlebug, and one of the most personable kitties I’ve ever met. She also has a striking purr, which sounds a bit like a turkey gobbling when she is really happy LOL. So her middle name is Turkey 🙂
My fiance has never had a cat before, but he is already in love with her. He says he never knew cats could be so friendly, or that they would chase their tails (which she does all the time – it is so hilarious to watch!) 🙂

@sarahjc0015: @BoiledPNut: Thank you! She is so soft and shiny, and she has beautiful tiger stripes on her back too. I need to get more pics, but somehow, I don’t foresee that being a problem 😉
@MrsSaltWaterTaffy: LOL, I could totally see wanting more. Kittens are awesome!

@Aure: I know! This is my first day away from her, and I wish I was at home petting her instead 🙂 She will sit and snuggle indefinitely!
@Nicoley1985: Thank you!

She looks like a little sweetie, that could also be a little stinker! I know that look, my kitties have the same one! I love how people who have never had cats always think they are cold and stuck up until they actually have one. My kitties are the biggest love bugs ever!

So cute! I love that she chases her tail- I’ve had 5 cats recently (counting the ones that I had with my mom) and only 1 did that, it is so cute when they do that!

@doily: Hehe yep! My fiance thought he was strictly a dog person, but not even a day went by before he was smitten 🙂 And I already see a little penchant for mischief in her, but she seems very occupied with her toys and her scratchpad with a little bit of catnip on the inside hehe
@Natakie16: Right? I’ve never seen it before, and it is just so amusing. Thank you 🙂
@mexicanabeibi: LOL thanks!
@Ms Bookworm: Thank you! I am big on adoption too – there were so many beautiful kitties there, and I am happy we were able to give one a home. And we can tell she’s enjoying it from all of her frolicking and (very audible) purring 🙂
