3:45 Sunday morning, DH woke up to the sound of someone coming into our front door. It’s the original front door of the house where our apartment is, and it’s directly off of our bedroom. He heard someone turn the door, then reach up, find our ‘hidden’ key in our apparently crappy hiding place, and start to open the door.
I woke up around now and was terrified. DH had his gun that he always keeps by the bedside, and was walking towards the door with it by his side. Just as he was about to cock it the door opens. He yells “who are you?”……and just then realized it was a paramedic?!?
Turns out, our 77 year old neighbor fell in her bathroom and called for help. The paramedics, not realizing our house is actually 4 apartments, got our place confused with hers. She turned out to be just fine, and we all had a good laugh about it when she got home!!
The twist of the story — that paramedic that broke into our house turned out to be an acquaintance of DH’s that had obviously never been over before. 😉
Anyone else ever have something crazy like this happen???

One time, when I was home alone (before hubby – I lived with my sister) and I heard someone fiddling with the lock. I thought it was my sister’s boyfriend since he had a key and sometimes showed up before she got home and I walked over to open the door. Well, this feeling came over me that said, “DON’T OPEN THAT DOOR!” So, I slyly looked through the peephole and saw a man dressed in black (how cliche, I know) bent over at the lock. I watched for what seemed like hours, trying to decide if I needed to call the cops. Well, after a minute or so, he got up and sort of lumbered away (an old man?). I don’t know….but it still freaks me out. My guardian angels were watching me that night.

I’m so glad it was just a mistake and you are okay!

Holy crap!! Glad that’s who it was, though. I had a scare once with cops snooping around after neighbors called but not announcing themselves. Think jiggling the door and shining the flashlight in isn’t scary? It is! MIGHT wanna find a better hiding spot though. :p

Oh gosh, more times than I’d like. I’ve moved around a lot, but have had creepy things happen.
At our last house my sister and I were up well past 1am watching a movie when we heard the door knob jingle. Now, keep in minder everyone but us was asleep in their beds. We hit the floor. My sister freaked out the most because she was at her boyfriend’s house once and there was a drive by shooting and she almost got hit (She likes the bad boys…). But we were both frozen on the floor, didn’t know what to do. Whoever it was gave up and left.
Another time before that, I had just entered high school and we lived in a new community on blanding blvd in Orlando. We were a little uneasy just because all of that construction and empty houses left openings for bad things to happen so we got one of those tall wooden fences put in. Well, one night while I was sleeping I heard this noise, sounded like someone was kicking wood, I drew back my curtain just enough to see a pair of hands gripping the top of our fence and trying to pull himself up over it, no idea why but scared me. I got up and told my parents, they didn’t believe me but the next day I walked around and saw the shoe marks where whoever it was had skidded trying to climb the fence.

I second Ms.Bun for finding a new hiding place, lol! Glad everything’s alright

Haha, yes we DID find a new hiding spot pronto!! We thought we were so clever for where we hid it… apparently not. 😉
Thanks for sharing your stories too!! It’s wild how stuff like this happens…

Wow, that’s scary. I have luckily never had anything like this happen, but we would have either needed a new mattress, or the paramedic would have been taking me with him because of the heart attack I would have had.
