I'm so excited as well. You are my date twin!!!!
We are getting married next NYE and planning a city wedding in the city of brotherly love. We actually just sent in the venue deposit today-going with a hotel in downtown right on the water with the ballroom with one wall of all glass.
When the clock strikes 12, free fireworks for us!!!
We also have our photographer confirmed. I'm going to have my dress designed so I'm meeting with the designer between now and the end of the year.
Anyone else?
ahhh!! how exciting! i've been searching like crazy for nye wedding inspiration pics - some of them are sooo amazing!
we too have the reception venue already. we gave the deposit back in august, i think. it's an oh-so-gorgeous ballroom (with an adjacent lounge) that sits on the 17th floor of a newly renovated (and amazingly beautiful) hotel right in the middle of downtown. oh yeah, and all four walls are floor-to-ceiling glass windows. it looks absolutely amazing at sunset!! and at night too, with all the city lights. :)
we also have the church set and we're in the middle of our marriage preparation courses/sessions with our priest. we've also picked out a photographer, but haven't given the deposit nor signed the contract just yet - that'll all happen around thanksgiving, when we're back in town.
that's about all we have done though - which is pretty good (i think). we have all the major stressors taken care of (with the exception of my dress, lol).
That's awesome! I wish we had floor to ceiling on all four walls! I was so psyched to have them for just one :) We actually cut our list 50-75 people just to accomodate getting married in that room.
Our ceremony and reception will both be in the same place.
I've been searching for inspiration to so if you find any, please post.
One thing I love about a NYE wedding, I can get away with tons. So...for the reception, we are actually serving brunch at 11:00 pm! So stoked. Waffles, omelets, french toast, crepes, etc. We are having an extended cocktail hour so guests can get their fair share of "real" food and then off to the fun stuff.
Have you found any of your vendors charging a "holiday" premium?
umm, yeah - we're having to tread carefully when it comes to the guest list because the ballroom isn't as large as others. it's still a pretty decent size though. but that's what we wanted. we knew if we found a place that could hold 600 people, then we'd have 600 people at our wedding, which really isn't what we want.
our ceremony is going to be in the church that i grew up in, which is maybe like a ten minute drive (fifteen tops) to the hotel where the reception will be at. we'll have a few hours between the ceremony and the reception, and the hotel is downtown right in between different museums and city landmarks (we were both born and raised in that same city), so i'm hoping we'll be able to get some really good pictures.
ya know, i thought that vendors were going to charge more for it being a holiday, but that hasn't been the case at all. the ballroom is the same price it would be for any other wedding/event at the hotel. in fact, it's slightly cheaper because we're using it on a friday instead of a saturday. same goes with the photographer - she is knocking $600 off of the total price: $500 off for it being the winter time (i suppose because it's not a popular wedding season) and $100 off for it being on a friday. that brings our photography total to under $2k, which is really awesome because most photographers were quoting me between $3-5k!
what about your vendors? are they charging you extra holiday prices or cutting you really good deals?
oh, and by the way, i am loving that you're having brunch so late at night. i absolutely love breakfast food and would have a field day at your wedding, haha! and yes, i'll post some inspiration pics i've found. promise. ;)
No, the vendors actually gave me really good deals for the winter and the day. I did extend the offer to the ones that I like to have their significant other for the ball dropping.
NYE was always about love in my family and I couldn't imagine not being with my husband/family when the clock struck 12.
The venue has been ridiculously accomodating as well with the upgrades and the time of year. It took us about 1 week to work through customizing the menu and I really dolove that they were so flexible. The only thinkg I may not have is a hot chocolate station. I just can't justify paying an extra $4 pp when I know I may be the only one drinking it. lol. The sales manager promised me that I would get a glass though :)
Time between the ceremony and reception are great especially so people can get prepared to party for the night.
What time is your reception over?
Guess we are the only ones on this board for a while. It's like our own private chat :)
haha, yup - it's kinda nice talking with somebody who's getting married on the same day i am! and by kinda nice, i mean super exciting, lol.
our reception will end at 1:00am. which kinda sucks, because it's new years! but because it's on the 17th floor of a hotel, that's the time any/all events have to end so as not to disturb other guests. it's kind of a blessing too though, because my MOH wants to have a nice brunch the next morning to chit chat and recap all the vents of the day before; and i'm sure if we stayed up super late partying, nobody would attend said brunch, lol. so yeah, i'm sure it'll all work itself out.
it's so great that your venue is soo accommodating. some places can be just down right ridiculous, so i love when i hear about places that are a dream to work with.
so what colors have y'all chosen?
Oh the colors...herels where it gets interesting:
ceremony is going to be "ivory wahsed" everything in ivory (except me lol)
Cocktail 1.5 hrs will be in amber and chocolate (we will do mostly the amber with choc accents (linens etc)
reception blue, purple, and bring in the amber, chocolate. The florals will be the majority of the colors. The room will be uplit in the blue.
How about you?
Hello fellow December 2010 brides! I'm December 11th 2010! I really don't have much planned. I know my colors are black and white and also my wedding/reception will be quite small!
welcome! How small is "small"? I think we are pretty small.
welcome MzThrowBac2B! we have the same colors - our wedding is going to be black and white as well! with hints/accents of deep/dark red. although, i have been toying with the idea of black & white with accents of soft pinks/blush - but the fiance is already sold on red (and the decor of reception venue is black, white, and red) so i'm thinking the soft pinks/blush are gonna be tossed out the window, lol. oh well, a girl can dream. ;P
farfromordinarybride - wow! so many colors - it all sounds sooo gorgeous, lol!
and yes, i'm curious, how big (or small) are y'alls weddings going to be? we're looking at between 275 and 325, but hoping for no more than 250ish, lol.
@<span style="font-size: x-small; color: #81a026;">MzThrowBac2B we are small too then-we will be around 125
@<span style="font-size: x-small; color: #81a026;">future.mrs.v thanks. My friend says we are the kleidescope wedding :)
I love black & white weddings!
Hi!! Bees!
Im so excited about this board too!!! My wedding colors are aqua (light blue) and silver. I want to incorporate the winter theme but very subtly. LOL Im thinking of using crystals throughout the reception and in every detail...
I already reserved the church, (St Louis Cathedral) and reception venue (Southern Oaks Plantation) My fiance is in Irak so we decided to take our engagement pictures before He left. So we already have our wedding photographer.
We are inviting 300 guest, expecting around 250.
I am currently dress hunting... I had try on some dresses on but havent find THE ONE, lol...
How far in advance are you getting your dress?? Anyone using light blue for the wedding colors??
Welcome to the board. I love your colors!
My dress is being custom made so technically I only need about 4 months but i'm going at the beginning of the year to begin the process.
We're using blue, but it's a darker shade, not navy but I don't know what exactly it's called lol
Love, love, love crystals :)

YAY!! For Decemeber 2010 board.
We are having our wedding in PA. We have the venue picked, got my dress, DJ deposit paid, Photographer deposit paid, centerpieces were just paid for, invitation deposit in, and the save the dates will be going out with XMAS cards. I have been engaged since August 08 so, I have already had plenty of time to get ideas and deposits down.
Huzzah!
My date isn't set in stone, but I really like the idea of 12-11-10 (partly b/c it'll be easy for my FI to remember hehe).
We are leaning towards wintery wonderlandy sorta theme with lots of light & bright blues.
Gonna visit the Hawthorne Hotel next Saturday for our first venue tour!
Yay for potentially being someone's twin!!!
wow! there's quite a few of us december 2010 brides!! :D
sooo, we're meeting with our photographer this weekend to look at some of her work in person (we've only seen her blog)... oh yeah, and to finally meet her in person too! all of our correspondence thus far has been over emails - oh how i have found a special love for the internet in this time of long distance planning, ha! i'm super excited though, b/c that will be another big thing done and taken care of; and we get to set our e-pics date!!! :D
have any of y'all taken epics already? if so, please, do share! :)
I'm so excited about this board. Will be married on 12-12-10 in Lake Lure NC. We have the ceremony and reception location picked out and will visit it in about 2 weeks. I have already designed the STD's and invites. Im dreading trying on dresses so probably wont do that until Feb or March.
