    JRL2012    March 30, 2012   PA Wedding in MD :)

So I woke up yesterday morning to a freezing house. Our entire furnace went up! We just found out that it won't be fixed until Monday. So that means no hot water and no heat. Which would have been fine a week ago with the 60 degree wether we were having(very strange for Jan in PA) BUT it snowed yesterday and will be snowing tonight with below freezing temps. My bridal shower is tomorrow and I have to try to get ready somewhere else but I moved to PA with my FI which is 45 min away from my family so my only option is to try to go to his parents house at the crack of dawn.

To add more to this situation my FI wasn't home last night because he was away on a business meeting... but before he left he made sure to scare me to death about using a space heater! He told me to take the fire estinguisher and sit it next to it. Well I sleep like a rock and was scared the whole house would catch on fire while I was sleeping so I just tried to sleep without it.

I forgot my coffee, overslept and in the midst of all of this my dog starts peeing on the floor right in front of me as I was putting on my coat to take them out. My step-mom just asked me if she has to stay for the entire bridal shower and my mom won't stop calling me asking me stupid questions and I'm just beyond annoyed. The bridal shop also called to say my dress was not going to be here until 2 weeks before the wedding and just GRRRRRRRR. The list goes on.

I know this is life and things happen... I'm just stressed. I'm usually very positive but the last few weeks having been so trying on me! Just let me get heat soon and get this wedding over!

one thing you can try is to turn the space heater on in your room a couple of hours before you sleep and keep the doors and windows closed. Then when you are about to sleep you turn it off but the room is already heated up a bit. I used to do this when I stayed in an apartment with a broken heater system

:-( Sorry to hear about the troubles! Another thing you could do is see if you can find a reasonably priced heated mattress pad. Targets/Walmarts/BBB should all have them. Those things are awesome, and at least your bed will be nice and toasty and you'll get quality sleep. Brides need their sleep, so it's totally a justifiable expense :-) Plus, the queen sized ones and up generally have 2 controls, so your FI doesn't need to have a warm bed if he's not a fan.

ETA- My sister and I used to seal up our room and sleep all night with the space heater on full. Just be sure to clear the area around it of clutter/clothes/etc and you will be fine. Be sure to keep the dog out of the room, though, b/c he/she may knock it over. If it's standing alone, it will likely be fine.

Sheesh!  Hope things get better soon..   I say go for the space heater tho.  The ones made these days are beyond crazy annoying with their safety features.  They are fine to leave on while you sleep, I leave them on all the time.

I live in South-central PA and have been w/o electric (thus w/o heat) for up to 5 days in winter. Get or borrow a kerosene heater to keep the pipes from freezing!

This used to happen all the time in my old apartment. Not that you can do this for the bridal shower, but in order to bathe before work I laid down some towels in front of my stove and heated up water in a pot and took kind of a bird bath. Also, I invested in a very nice king sized dual control heated blanket. While they're still a fire hazard, I'd feel much more comfortable with the blanket than a space heater.

    Thank you bees!

I will def have to invest in a heating blanket as soon as I leave work! The best thing is my MOH just called saying she has a new job and is waiting to hear back on wether she can have off the whole day on my wedding! Oh Stress! I need wine! @moderndaisy:  And that is a great idea! I can shower tonight and flat iron my hair and do a bird bath kinda thing so I don't have to wake up so early!@KT808:  Great Idea as well... I did leave the faucets dripping today hoping that will prevent it :/
