This will be the last question of this kind! I pinky promise! lol
So one final photographer in our potential line up of photographers. This is a casual friend of my Fiance from grad school.
He has been against contacting her from the get go because he doesn’t want to make her feel like she owes us a discounts because they are familiar. Fair enough point. But I also don’t think it’s fair to rule her out either. She may give us a discount, she may not. At the end of the day she’s still running a business and deserves a chance to make money and expand her portfolio, right?
Anyway she’s about $500-$750 out of our price range(depending on what we get) but if we can get the most bang for our buck out of her I’m totally willing to cut back/forgo things like tons of flowers, a photobooth, wedding cake, expensive invites, etc.
Here is the newest photographer and our other options. They are in order from most expensive to cheapest.

So for some reason I can no longer find wedding portraits on the page for Megan Hile Photography(though she still does them)
To see her work you’ll have to go to her facebook page. Sorry!

I admit I like the more expensive Blue Pearl the most (love). I do think that the photographer should know that your Fiance is the groom, because that’s going to be one hell of a shock for her if not; and I think I’d be a bit confused if he hadn’t said anything.
Anyway. My second choice would be Paul Routon Jr.
I don’t like Randi Underwood (I don’t get a vibe from his photos) and I feel a bit “meh” about Megan Hile (although I think she’d be great for other things just not a wedding).
That’s my opinion anyway. 🙂

They once had a discussion about her photography and us getting married(ages ago) and I have met and talked to her on occasion. So she knows we’re getting married and looking for a photog. She’s the only one I haven’t actually contacted yet to set up a meeting. But I’ll probably just contact her through facebook since it would be easier and she’d know from the get go what to expect.
I do love her work. For the price it’s great. That crutch is just the whole being ever so slightly out of our budget and trying to figure out how to make it work if we did decide on her.

@SweetHoneyBee: I’m all for photography. And I do think it’s one of my “must-haves” but if it doesn’t work with your budget then perhaps it’s best to go with an alternative?
BUT I think you should get an actual quote first (as opposed to just looking at her rates); she may give you a discount without you asking. Since she’s a “friend” I it may be easier to be honest and say “you’re just a little out of our price range”, that way you’re not asking for a discount but if she realises you can’t afford her she might have a kind heart (since she knows you).
Does that make sense? I feel I’m just blabbing a lot these days.

Totally makes sense. No blabbing at all. Her base price isn’t outrageously out of our budget. It’s doable and I’m willing to make it more than doable if she ends up being the best option for us.
I just have a hard time parting with money period and I have been meticulously going over our budget and finding out where we can cut costs and where we can spend a little more money. I want to stay at or under $10,000 and my mother is insisting that’s impossible if we go with any photographer we’ve looked at. So I’m panicking(albeit unnecessarily)
But I love pictures and it’s hard to part with the idea of really fantastic photos from our day.
I will be contacting her tomorrow. It’s just been a big pain for the last couple of weeks convincing Fiance that it’s worth looking into. He saw the base price and immediately shut down. I can’t even describe to you how against he was even asking about her price options. It took a lot of discussing before he even considered letting me email her.

We met with Randi Underwood today. Her pictures are much better in person than online and she is super warm and friendly. I was kind of hesistant about her just from what she had on her site but we can actually get a lot good stuff for our money with her and she seems to be super easy to work with.
I got in contact with Blue Pearl Photography (my Fiance college friend) and she is still a teeny bit out of our range but she seemed more than willing to work with us and our budget so we have a meeting scheduled with her as well.
Overall I am MUCH more confident an excited about this after our meeting today.

I like Blue Pearl and Paul Routon. Go with the one that is cheaper. IMO Underwood is too classic (boring) wedding, and I’m sorry to say, the photos are a bit like an amature with an expensive camera. Megan Hile looks like she focuses on family portraits and for a wedding you may want to have someone able to do photojournalism too (totally different skills sets). Good luck picking!

i looked at all but the m wesbite and i thought blue pearl was the best!

I like Blue Pearl and Randi Underwood the best. My top choice would be Blue Pearl.

The photographers definitely read as most expensive to least in their talent levels.
Your friend is more expensive for a reason – i’d definitely pick her over the others. She is actually the only photog i’d let do my wedding out of the ones listed!!
