We just booked our honeymoon to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic! I'm so excited, I just may be more excited for a relaxing, tropical vacation with my new husband than the wedding itself :)

Anyway, we are staying at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro, which is an adults-only (YAY), all-inclusive resort. It is located right on the beach and has two large pools (one that has a swim-up bar!) and several resturants and other bars. And the coolest part: our room has a jacuzzi, a terrace with a hammock, and 24-hour room service!

For those of you on a budget, I would highly recommend looking into going here or somewhere similar. We only paid $2,200 total, which includes 5 nights at the resort, the flight, insurance, and a shuttle to take us from the airport to the resort. We are only estimating spending a few hundred more on excursions, as our food and alcohol are completely covered.

For those of you that have been to Punta Cana, which excursions would you recommend? We definitely want to go parasailing and snorkeling at some point. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You must take the catamaran tour to saona island, it is so amazing!

The DR is extremely poor... and not super safe in many places / situations.  I wouldn't recommend going anywhere that you haven't worked out with the Hotel for a side-trip / excursion.

I have been and i can say it is a beautiful place. Safety-wise, the only time i was ever concerned was on the roads. I would 100% recommend the trip to paradise island, it lives upto its name! The corals are beautiful and the local tour guide will take underwater photos of you for a couple of $, also, there is an eco reserve, not sure what it was called but you can swim with dolphins and snorkel etc. It was a good trip but I did feel for the dolphins as their pools were not the biggest i've seen so i don't think i would return on that basis, but thats just me!

Just remembered the afternoon part of paradise island takes you through mangroves and where you can spot manatees and have lunch on the beach! wear sunscreen though, i got burnt to a crisp that day! Feel free to ask me anything you wanna know :)

@mrs_brownie:  I highly recommend doing the Saona Island... it's probably the best tour there... also the catamaran boat

and if you feel like doing something more touristic and getting to know the locals... the Safari or Dominican Experience...
