i have no tips, but just want to say that is so exciting! i am dying to go to Hawaii one day! i am sure it will be a BLAST!
That's awesome. No tips here. I'd LOVE to go to Hawaii though. =)
Woohoo! We went to Maui for our honeymoon, and it was the most amazing week of my life. Have a fantastic time, girl!
We are going to Hawaii, too, although we are spending most of our time on Maui and the Big Island. I have friends from Hawaii, and they recommend the Manoa Falls hike and Waiola shaved ice (near Waikiki).
NICE!!! I really want to go to Hawaii some day. The view looks fantastic!
Thanks ladies! FI is way excited to go on the LOST tour....
We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and stayed right on Waikiki Beach. My tip for you guys is to find an ABC store, which seems as those there is one on every corner and buy your snacks and water. We didn't rent a car, because we were close to shopping, eating, attractions at our hotel. Definitely tour Pearl Harbor, also do a luau, we chose to do Germaine's Luau and it was great. You will love it and it is so relaxing! We bought a couple of blow up rafts to use in the water from the ABC store and then just left them for someone else when we were heading home. I can't wait until we are able to go back!!
@stormy9973: Awesome, thanks for the tips! We def want to do a luau, and FI has his herat set on Pearl Harbour as well....
I just siogned up for Honolulu deals on Living Social, so here's hoping something good comes up!
@sara_tiara: How exciting!!! Waikiki is a lot of fun, I'm sure you'll love it! My best tip though is to rent a car for at least a couple days so you can explore the rest of the island which has a very different feel that Waikiki. The best beaches, in my opinion, are Kailua Beach, Lanikai Beach, and Waimea Bay.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!
@sara_tiara: Omg they have a LOST tour??? Ok, now I REALLY want to go! I've never watched LOST when it was on TV but I got the 1st season as a gift in my stocking for Christmas.... I'm now addicted. Just started the 5th season. Let me know how you find the tour!! lol
Ahh the Lost tour! So fun. Great thinking in getting a condo. Looks gorgeous, I bet it will be a blast.
Haven't been so no tips but just wanted to be excited for you :)
@Missido: LOL, that is what hapened to us...we started watching it on DVD right before season 4 started and breezed through 1-3 in about two weeks! You can go on an EIGHT HOUR TOUR, lol....I think that's a bit much, even for us.
This is going to sound goofy, but the reason FI and I want to do Hawaii for our honeymoon is for the Lost tour! Love that show!
@itshouldsnow: Um, FI wanted a Cali roadtrip and the LOST tour was literally the only thing that convinced him to do Hawaii. So I hear ya, sister.
may I ask sara tiara, how much you booked hawaii honeymoon for and who you booked with/how long you are going? we are planning for hawaii too but have not really looked into pricing, hotels, flights, etc. thanks!
@bump: I know you asked @sara_tiara: but when we booked we went through a travel agent that I had gone on cruises with, but our vacation was actually booked through GOGO Vacations and it was a 6 day 5 night deal with air and hotel with insurance it was about $4100 for both of us. They have package deals on the website that will give you an idea!
@bump: My dad actually paid for it, as it's his gift to us...I *believe* the flights were just under 2k for both of us roundtrip from detroit....but I'm pretty sure he used points to get money off. The condo was $135/day, so for 11 nights it was about $1500. He also paid for our shuttles and our hotel park and fly in detroit....I know the budget he gave us was $3500, and he said we stayed within it. Sorry I can't give you more specific numbers!
Just from my research though I can tell you to try to get a place with a kitchen or kitchenette as the food there is pretty pricey! We found our place on vacationrentals.com Also, Maui can be a little less expensive, but my aunt (who goes every year) said we'd probably need to rent a car if we went there, so it ends up costing around the same.
Ooh Hawaii. Good choice! :) We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon last June but my husband just had a business trip to Waikiki (lucky duck!) and I went with him for a vacation. So it's all fresh in my mind!
Someone mentioned Waiola Shave Ice. Mmm definitely go there. They shave their ice sooo thin it's almost like icecream. It's just slightly outside of Waikiki (down Kapahulu Ave).
Also just past Waiola Shave Ice (down Kapahulu--away from the ocean) is Leonard's Bakery. They have the BEST malasada's (portuguese donuts)! You can get them filled or just have them plain with white sugar or cinnamon sugar on them.
The downtown area of Waikiki has great shopping so I recommend going there too. In downtown Waikiki, there are some good food options too. Duke's Canoe Club has a great (inexpensive) breakfast buffet. The Shore Bird restaurant is pretty unique (also tasty!) cause they have you pick a meat/fish, you get it raw, and then go over and grill it yourself on this huge grill they have buy the beach. Roy's was really good too and good for a fancy night out. There are Roy's all over Hawaii but we just went to this one on our last trip to Honolulu.
If you have any questions, you can pm me! Have fun on your honeymoon!!!
Defintely go to the Polynesian Culture Center. It's amazing and so much fun!!! They have a show at night showing all the islands dancers and it's so much fun!!! Pearl Harbor is also a must see! We are date twins and we will be honeymooning in Hawaii also, but on Kauai! :)
Go skydiving. Seriously - the views are incredible. There are a number of skydiving companies on Oahu. Try to find one that flies from Dillingham Airfield, that way, once you're done, you can drive down the road and visit Camp Erdman - it's where the Others lived in Lost. Those yellow cabins? They're a YMCA camp. They may not be open to the public for you to wander around (camp may be in session), but you can take pics from the street.
While you're up there, explore Haleiwa and watch the waves. And then go by Matsumoto's for shave ice. Pull over when you see a shrimp truck and have a meal off the side of the road.
Try spam musubi. Get a plate lunch (loco moco).
Climb Diamond Head. It's an easy hike.

We rented a condo, so we could have a full kitchen, etc....here is our view!
Does anyone have any Honolulu/Waikiki tips?
