If you can do it be sure to go to Rick’s Cafe in Negril…it is well worth the drive if you’re staying in a near by city (we stayed in Montego Bay). It was voted as one of the top 15 bars in the world and also has a famously beautiful sun set. At sun set local cliff divers jump about 80 feet into the water below! If you’re brave enough you’re allowed to jump from a lower platform. The food is excellent as well πŸ™‚

Enjoy!

@muckmoo1: Good to hear! It was definitely one of the high lights of our trip πŸ™‚ Just make sure to time it so that you can have a good spot to watch the sunset! We were smart and found out what time the sunset usually happens and went for dinner in the upper patio before hand so that we had a good seat when it happened. It does get a little packed during busy season I’ve heard!

Anyway enjoy. Jamaica is so beautiful and the beaches are amazing. The people there are truely kind hearted and welcoming if you are the same to them πŸ™‚

Mind if I ask where you’re staying?  We’re strongly considering Jamaica.

@muckmoo1: We went at the end of March and the weather was great! We had maybe a day and a half of cloudy skies and that’s it! I would just reccomend making friends with the hotel staff or one particular taxi driver. Usually you can find a driver that will take you to amazing local beaches. We found a fellow that we basically said, “Come back tomorrow at x time and we’ll have work for you.” Sure enough he’d be waiting at our resort gates for us right on time!

Here is a website where I found some amazing info. This website sums up just about all the focal points that Jamaica has to offer.

There is another cool place that I forget the name of, but if you do some searching you’ll find it. It’s a little resturant/cafe on the water that brings you out into a bay at night where you can swim in phosphoresent water (little tiny microscopic organisms that light up). These organisms light up similar to the way a fire fly does when touched so the water glows and shimmers around you. Jamaica has one of the highest concentrations in the world so it’s something to see!

I have been to Rick’s Cafe as well and it is worth the drive. Personally, I think Negril has the best beach in Jamaica so if you can, hit it up while you are there.

I suggest always getting a hotel worker to negotiate cab fares for you before you go anywhere so you don’t get WAY over-charged. The cabs are not metered there. And make sure that the cabs are members of the Jamaican Union of Travellers Association (JUTA). These are identified by red-and-white “PP” licence plates and a lime green JUTA sticker on the window.

Also, it is illegal to wear (or to buy or sell) army or police camouflage clothing. Just something worth noting in case your FH has a fave pair of camo shorts or something πŸ™‚ Have a great time!

Thats awesome – Jamaica is a beautiful country and the people there are the nicest you will ever meet. Definitely take some time to talk to the locals – we met some very interesting and kind people while we were there (Ocho Rios)
