A Friday will definitely be less expensive, but so much less convenient.  I’m not  the biggest fan of weddings on anything other than a Saturday.  I’ll only go to Friday or Sunday weddings if I’m very close to the person who is getting married, and I’ve noticed those weddings have a lot of people leaving early, not dancing as much, etc. I might do a different Saturday in July, as traveling costs could be higher due to the holiday weekend and some families have long-standing plans.

CarolinaPeach13:  Congratulations on your engagement! While a holiday weekend might be attractive if you want to host a wedding weekend, you’re right that costs can be significantly higher for your guests, even with block rates. One of my friends got married over a major holiday weekend. I couldn’t attend because hotel rates were twice what they ordinarily would have been. We were absolutely willing to fly in (cross-country for myself and my FI) and stay the requisite number of nights, but with the holiday inflation, we just couldn’t manage it. It was a disappointment because I’d have loved to be there for her special day!

However, if the bulk of your guests are not from out-of-town, I’d go for it! It’s your wedding day – choose whatever date is most meaningful to you and your FI. Congratulations again on your engagement!
