So I needed to go ring shopping a second time since Shane Co. lost my info on the ring I picked out and my SO and I actually went last night! (See this thread for info on backstory if you want…)
He had offered to go with me but has been sick, so the last I had heard from him was that I had to wait two weeks at a minimum before he would even think about going. Well last night I asked him if he wanted to go out to dinner with me and he was all for it. We went to PF Changs (one of his favorite restaurants). We know the bartenders there, so I swear they always make our drinks extra strong. After one mai tai, I was being pretty silly and said, “You know I could get all over your case for this, right?” He had no idea what I was talking about so I went on. “You told me that you weren’t feeling up to going to the store, but here you are out to dinner and having drinks.” He replied, “What are you talking about? What store?” Me: “The jewelry store!” I sat there grinning like a fool and when it registered with him what I was talking about he actually gave in and offered to go! Turns out he was feeling a little better and had actually been running errands all day. I did feel kind of badly for adding another thing to his day when he probably had been pushing himself just to get things done, but I got super excited!
We walked into Jared and they asked us what we needed. My SO told them we wanted to look at engagement rings and just hearing him say this made me feel kind of giddy. The word engagement has never come out of his mouth before! I told the saleswoman my story about how Shane Co. had thrown away my ring info, and she promised me that she would be sure to save my info and call me at least 5 times before throwing it away.
I tried on a few different rings, mostly in the same style as the one I had picked out before. I found one extremely similar to the Shane Co. ring I had picked out, and it turns out that I think I like it even more! The only thing I was disappointed with is that I could tell my SO doesn’t like it (I knew this with the last ring too). He thinks rings with smaller diamonds along the side are gaudy (his words). Ugh! He said that he is more traditional and would have picked out a solitaire with nothing on the band at all. I tried on one or two and I personally thought that the style is boring and plain. (But nothing against you ladies who prefer this style! To each their own!) He did say that it’s about what I like, so I stuck with the ring I picked out.
After that we looked at the diamonds. We looked at 1 carat (originally I was looking at smaller, but he asked to go for that size *shrug*). We sit down and my SO starts asking all these questions about H and VVS1 and I was just shocked. Honestly, I know what the 4 C’s stand for, but I don’t know anything more than that! Apparently he is very picky about what kind of diamond he wants to buy. We looked at their Leo and Peerless diamonds and he loved the way the Peerless look. I will admit that they sparkled wonderfully!
The saleswoman wrote down all the info about my ring and diamond and copied it onto a card which my SO took home. I also took a picture of the info just in case it gets lost. The ring was in white gold and my SO thinks platinum is better (I could care less), so they are supposed to call me today with the price on the platinum ring (they didn’t have it in store). I sort of hope that he doesn’t go with the Peerless diamond, because it makes it so much more expensive, but at the same time it would be such a beautiful diamond to have in my ring! I told him that I could go with a cracker jack ring, just as long as I get to marry him, but he just rolled his eyes.
Things are moving right along! He didn’t buy anything while we are there, but I think it could happen within the next few months! (Although when the saleswoman said that they keep the info on file for about 3 months, he looked at me like “uh-oh”… So maybe he is thinking further out than 3 months from now.)
