My nails are super weak. They barely grow at all before breaking or tearing. I feel like I've tried every strengthening polish/treatment/cream and nothing seems to help at all. Does anyone have a miracle cure?

    Hi Riley Jane,

I have weak nails as well!  It's horrible because I can never grow them out without them breaking or tearing.  I do wish I could offer advice, but I don't know what to do either.  I just wanted to empathize with you.

Try Sally Hansen's nail strengthener. You should be able to get it at Wal-Mart. I think that is where I got it last time. It worked wonders for me.

I had the SAME problem, and when seeing a Naturopath, mentioned it to her.  Her advice was to start from the inside out, and that weak nails are usuall a sign of something else.  i started taking a daily multivitamin, as well as Omega 3 (which give nice oil and health to hair and nails) and now, 2 months later, my nails are REALLY strong :)

Biotin.  I'm pretty sure I read this either here or on ProjectWedding.com, but regardless, I've started taking it daily, and it's made a huge improvement.  My nails are growing faster than ever!

Have you tried Nailtiques?  It's available at drugstores like CVS, and was magic for my nails.  It comes in a little white box.

I stock piled neutragena nail enhancer pens, they are amazing! Super quick and my nails go from brittle and peeling to super long in under a week. I think you can still get them on ebay (they don't sell them anymore, they were discontinued a couple of years ago). You can also try taking multivitamins and using cuticle cream.

I've heard people say that taking a multivitamin or even prenatal vitamins can do great things for your nails.  I haven't tried anything specific, but I do take a multivitamin everyday and my nails are super strong and grow like crazy.

I have to agree with the others about taking a multivitamin.  My nails have always grown well, but would break really easily.  Now that I've been taking a multivitamin, I don't have nearly as many issues.

Also, when I'm really focused on growing them, I'll apply "Nail Magic", which is like the nail strengthener someone else mentioned.  Not sure if it really does any good, but I feel like just having SOMETHING on my nails helps strengthen them, or at least makes them thicker and not break as easily.

Take Vitamins, drink milk, and stop using polish. Polish doesn't allow the nails to breathe and weakens them over time. Nail strength is related to bone strength, so do the same things your do for healthy bones (calcium and vitamin d)

The best thing I've used was OPI Nail Envy. Also, I agree with the other posters about vitamins.

Ive taken prenatal vitamins for a few months now. Not only are my nails so much stronger (they hardly ever chip anymore) but they grow SUPER fast when they do break so i dont even worry about it! Also - my hair has grown SO fast it is unbelievable! My friend is in pharmacy school and she was taking them and her hair and nails were growing so fast so I started and it has worked for me too!

I’ve been taking children’s multi-vitamins (yay for Flintstones!) for the past few month because pre-natal vitamins upset my stomach. Since I started taking them, my hair and nails are noticeably better - and grow really fast. I also use “Thicker Healthier Nails" By Once Removed on them. It’s a clear, matte finish you put on them (you can’t really tell anything is on your nail, and you can p ut polish right over it if you like). I think those two things have helped my nails a lot. Hope this helps!

I just got wraps put on mine, hoping in the next four months they will grow underneath so I can soak the wraps off and just have gel manicure :(

Biotin!  I take it and it makes your nails stronger and your hair stronger as well.

i have some weird nails myself - some fingers don't look like they should be on the same hand. I am now taking a daily multivitamin and they seem a bit stronger. I also like to keep my nails short and filed so they don't break and keep some nailpolish on them b/c i LOVE polish and they keep them a little safer, in my opinion.

In addition to all the fabulous advice above...I'd recommend a cuticle/hand lotion. Whenever my hands are dry/unhealthy, my nails break. Coincidence? I think not.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. I will definitely have to start taking vitamins (I don't, bad, I know) and try out some of these other products. Hopefully that will help!

    Thanks gals!

I'm not a doctor by any means but I do know from past health issues, that usually when there is a skin, nail, hair issue it is fueled by an internal bodily issue. Sounds like you may be lacking calcium.Make sure that you are getting your daily amount of calcium, and you wouldn't believe the difference. Drinking milk doesn't always cut it either! Check into getting a calcium supplement or a multivitamin with calcium added as well and start on that.

    Good Luck!
