I’m getting married in August in southern Ontario (for those not familiar with Canadian summers, it does get surprizingly hot!!!). Originally I thought I would wear my hair up because of the heat and I sweat enough as it is I don’t want to be gross. My hair is to about the middle of my back and quite thick. However, I went to “visit” my dress a few weeks ago and when I tried it on I had my hair down and OMG it looked so much better than up!!! Is it worth it to wear it down? Will it be sticky and gross and will I regret it? Most of the wedding is indoors but it’s in old buildings with no air conditioning and we’ll be out in the sun for pictures and everything. I don’t know what to do! People keep saying “oh just wear it half back off your face” but that look really does not work on me.

hmmm, its really up to you and how youre going to feel on the day of. It might look really good now, but if you tend to get sweaty and your hair sticks to everything (like mine) then you might be more comfortable with it up! Maybe try a different updos to see if you like another better? I know for me, if I was having my wedding in the Texas heat of August, it would be up! I would rather be comfortable and not messing with my hair the entire night!

Totally agree with misschickpea. When hair gets sweaty it can dry and then become very fly away. I would wear it up. Its a shame your venue doesn’t have air con. If it did you could wear your hair up for the ceremony and pictures and then have it down for the reception. I would suggest trying different up styles to find one that looks great with your dress and suits the climate your getting married in.

I was born and lived in Ontario for a long time, so I know what you mean… I think if you spend all that time on your hair and then have it get ruined from the heat you won’t be happy. With the said… could you wear it down at first and see how long it stays nice and then have a plan B to put your hair up? Any hair dresser friends? My friend got married in July and it looked great at first but by the middle of the evening it was flat and messy, she had one of our friends do a quite up-do and she was much happier how it looked up after the heat had its way 🙂

I’ve been to 3 summer weddings where the bride wore her hair down and then put it in a ponytail half way through the reception.
With the dress, and the excitement, and the champagne, I got REALLY hot. At one point of my groomsment actually wiped sweat from my forehead with a napkin…and I was wearing my hair up! It’s up to you, but if you tend to get hot, I would recommend wearing it up.

Could you do something like this? A low side pony can keep everything off your back and out of your face and still give you some hair being down!

I’d suggest a half-up or pony style. I think a lot of it also depends on your dress. If you’re going with a tea length, lighter lace one or a heavier ballgown… that would make the world of difference to how hot you’re going to be!
I have a ballgown but I tried on some in shops that were of a heavier material than the one I chose… I was sweating just trying it on!
If you do want to wear it mostly down though, I’d be sure you’re not adding anything that would add heat to the look…. close-toed shoes, heavy underthings, etc.
