I’m considering wearing my mom’s wedding dress from 1977 for my wedding. This is it here but in cream. It is floor length.
I’m considering changing the top in some way to remove the cape. Any suggestions? I like a V neck style and thought about a sparkly belt. Would it look too old fashioned to keep as is??

@ash83: It’s gorgeous. I agree with removing the cape though. It’s not old-fashioned, it just doesn’t look wedding-y. But with the cape removed and a sparkly belt or pretty sash it would look just like a simple wedding dress!!

This is so sweet of you, I love this idea and the dress!! I kinda like the cape, but you do have plenty of options to get the top altered.

I would take it to a seamstress. They will be able to tell you what’s possible and give you some creative ideas.

Old fashioned is pretty contemporary these days! So I wouldn’t let that stop you. I kinda like the cape. But I agree that removing it and adding a belt would be pretty too and still have that vintagey-look. I think it’d look nice with a rounded neckline.

I forgot to mention that it would be for an elopement to Italy:) outdoor garden ceremony.

I think your ideas of removing the cape, creating a V-neck, and adding a sparkly belt are exactly right. You’ll look stunning!
