Long story short we were recently robbed and they took my beautiful wedding band my fiance bought when he got my engagement ring. I know it probably won’t happen again but I’m so anxious that something will happen to it. We live in a safe neighborhood so it was quite shocking. I know it is probably bad luck but my fiancé was so heartbroken when he realized they took the ring, that I almost want to wear the new one. What are your thoughts?

I wouldn’t. I want that moment he slides it on my finger for the first time to be special. I want my ring to be perfect and beautiful for our pictures (no wear and tear, no scratches). I guess to me, more than anything else, the wedding band signifies the day.
If I was concerned about losing it in a house robbery, I would keep it elsewhere (I.e. Locked in my desk at work, at my FMIL’s, etc.)
Sorry that happened to you. Been there and it really sucks. 🙁

I wouldn’t but it’s up to you. I want it to be fresh and shiny and new when I get it! WHy don’t you guys buy a little safe to put that kind of stuff in? Or, ask the jewelery store to hold it in their safe – that is what we are doing – mine’s been sitting at the jeweler since the fall.

Or you could wear it on another finger? That way you won’t be wearing it as a wedding ring, but you’d have it close for peace of mind?

@MrsWBS: They got into our safe…took everything even our passports. I like your idea about leaving it at the jewelers. I would prefer not wearing it before but I am just paranoid now.

@MrsDeLovely: oh wow that’s crazy! so sorry – i can’t even imagine! Definitely ask your jeweler – or you can rent a safe deposit box at the bank, too.

@MrsDeLovely: I would leave it at the jewelry store. We asked our local place and they will store it for us since we want to buy ours early!

Can you wear it on your right hand? Many cultures have the custom of wearing the ring on their non-wedding hand to symbolize engagement, snd then they switch it over on the day. Also, some people who get engaged with simple bands just wear the bands from the beginning.

@jaime187: good idea to keep it @ the jewelry store!
Or you could get a safe deposit box…
So sorry to hear it got stolen. Did insurance cover it?
