Depending on the fabric, it would be cool to dye it and wear it to a military ball. BTW, I love the dresses that zip apart.
Does anyone know what fabrics can be dyed? Mine is allover alencon lace and I'd love to be able to do this.
@meliss - I would take it to a really good dry cleaner, alot of them dye also. They will be able to tell you whether or not they can dye it. There are too many variables to dying it at home and I wouldn't risk it with rit dye.
I wish - mine is crazy beaded satin. No chance of wearing it again.
I wore mine twice--first for the ceremony and luncheon in Massachusetts, then for the at-home reception. I then sold it to another bride, who was thrilled to get it. I really couldn't see wearing it again.
i definitely dont plan to wear mine again, even if i dyed, i dont think it could look like anything but a wedding dress. i also plan to sell it immediately after. i am even thinking of posting ads before the wedding!
After I'm married, I'm going to wear my dress all the time. I'm going to vacuum, do the laundry and cook supper in that bad boy! I'm not paying $1800 for nothing, so you can bet your ass I'm gonna get my money's worth!
I'd like to dye mine and wear it again, but I'd probably cut it short. I don't know that I'll have a lot of future events to wear a long gown to, but if it's knee length or tea length I could wear it to a lot of work functions or weddings.
I def plan on keeping my wedding dress and occasionally doing the housework in it...... my mum has kept her wedding dress for 29 years and we are planning to have it made into a christening shawl as it has layers and layes of lace....im hoping to foloow this tradition with my own wedding dress one day.
Have a NYE party and have everyone wear their's again! My daughters did it and had a great time!

@smyley: Oh, that is such a cool idea!!! I'll keep it in mind for when a few more of my girlfriends are married :)
We are also planning on doing a party like pp said but not for nye. We are all going to get together in our dresses though and have a girls night in.
my cousin is going to have a party for the royal wedding and get married women to wear their dress again!
i'm hoping to do a rock the frock for another opportunity to wear mine - i do occasionally try it on at home too! maybe after that i will consider cutting and dying it...
I love the idea of having a wedding dress wearing party! And afterwards we can wear them to do the vacuuming and tidying up.

Thats hilarous!!!! I want to do one. But I need to get married first. That reminds me of the Ugly Prom dress dances they would have. So much fun.
@Bostonsmom: Baha! I love it :) Maybe we should keep each other accountable while vacuuming in our dresses!
@smyley: Um this is ingenious!!! I'm so doing this with all my married friends, yay!
Nope never going to wear mine again. I specifically wanted a wedding dress that was super bridal and could not be just a formal dress even in a different color.
I got to wear mine twice - wedding and then reception when we got back from our DW :)
@smyley: I have thought about doing something like that! I have heard about women who get together once a year for a brunch in their dresses just for an excuse to wear them... I am the first to get married though so I don't have any fellow brides to do this with! Bit its great to see that somebody has done something similar!
@tksjewelry: Oh yeah, I wouldn't even dream of trying it at home. I had a pair of jeans dyed black at the dry cleaners in Turkey once. Then I had the same thing done to a blue skirt and it ended up light gray instead. I remember them telling me it'll work best for either synthetic fabrics or natural fabrics, but I can't remember which.
This is what made me think my lace dress could look fabulous in black if I can't sell it. It's an Enzoani wedding dress she's wearing.

@meliss: it works better on natural fabrics than on synthetic. The natural fibres can take up the dye much better. Think of the difference between trying to soak up some water with a cotton towel, compared to with a plastic bag, and it makes more sense :)
I really want to get mine hemmed short so that I can wear it again. I love being in it, and it is all-over lace and pearls so it could be hemmed up and wouldn't look funny. Plus it has a lovely guava sash that would make it look just like a cute summer dress and not bridal at all if it were short.
The only thing I'm worried about is chickening out/not having the heart to hem it so short :( I also keep wondering... if I ever have a daughter/granddaughter, would she want to wear it? But then I think no, she will probably want to go dress shopping lol!
@so_said_ellie: Thanks! My dress was a higher-end alencon lace so this makes me hopeful. If it doesn't sell by our first anniversary I'm definitely going to look into this.
The dress I have my eye on is pretty adaptable ... so with a coloured belt or whatever I reckon I could pull off whipping it out again!
@Bostonsmom: hahaha....I already told my FI if ever comes home from work and I'm sitting there watching a movie in my dress to not think I lost my mind...same as you....just getting my money's worth!
I told FI I will definitely be wearing my dress after the wedding!!
My best friend and I are planning on having a "Wear your Wedding Dress Again" party!! She's married, my sister got married last year, her sister is getting married in April and I'm getting married in June so we are all going to get together and dress up in them for a girls night!
I just told him last night that every anniversary, we are going to wear my dress and his suit, just to keep ourselves accountable for our weight. He looked at me, laughed and said "You know, NO ONE would believe that you were the one to suggest this and not me!" I told him he gets to trade me in if I can't zip the sucker up. :P
The dress I'm buying can double as an evening gown; one reason I'm buying it. The other is because it'll go PERFECTLY with the theme (especially if I get black sais and get my hair done right! WOOT!).
I honestly couldn't see spending a lot for something I'd only wear once. Doesn't make sense to me... guess I'm too practical!
Love the idea of having a party to wear the dresses again, though! LOL! Sounds like it'd be a lot of fun!
For those of you interested in dying your dresses that are made from synthetic fabrics, consider Acid Dye.

You'd want a VERY BIG vat of water for this to work, and you have to not mind getting your dress wet, of course, but I've dyed several sythetic items successfully with this method.
This pink bodysuit was originally white when ordered. (The stripes you may see in the body suit are a result of the suit's making.)

It can be a bit scary, since removing a botched color job isn't always guaranteed, but there you go. :)
i LOVE the wedding dress NYE party :)
some of them could be reworn to a marine corps ball. i think i wouldn't wear mine to one though--i don't want to dye it. but it is possible.

Ok, so all you bees who have long dresses... do you plan to wear your dress again sometimes? Mine actually zips off and becomes tea length, but I prefer the long version best. I feel like it's a waste to preserve it and just let it sit in a closet for the rest of my life. I want to create another event so I can wear it again. (I haven't worn it yet obviously, so we'll see how much I want to wear it again in July). But seriously, have any of you considered wearing it again, somewhere, anywhere?
Any military brides? It would be cool to wear it to a Marine's Ball or something (maybe dye it another color). Am I just crazy for wanting to specifically FIND events to wear it to? Baha, I think I'm a little insane...
