First off to any bees in this area, I hope that the forest fire hasn’t affected y’all and everyone you care about is ok!
FH and I are planning on taking our honeymoon to this area in February 2014. We’re going to be driving from Louisiana. FH has a rear wheel drive sports car and I’m already sort of panicked about the idea of trying to drive in snow up a mountain. So I was just curious if anyone could give me any insight on what we can expect at that time of year? How likely is it that we’re going to be dealing with snow??

I would say there is a good chance of snow. If not, definitley rain. February can be very rainy in TN. You can google average precip for the area to get a better idea. I wouldn’t take a rear wheel drive car up there unless it was between late spring and late fall. You never know if it will wet and that’s bad news bears with the incline.

Definitely cold and possibility of snow especially if you are staying in a cabin in the mountains.

Well, it might be 60. Or you might get snow. TN can go either way in early Feb. Cold/freezing rain’s the most likely possibility though. Having owned a real wheel drive car, I wouldn’t risk it. Any chance you can use your car instead?

I’ve lived in this area practically my whole life, and there is NO telling what the weather might be like. It is so possible that it is 60 one day, and the next day there is 4 inches of snow on the ground! We have crazy weather in east tennessee. It would also depend on where you are staying at. Some cabins are way more secluded than others.

I must agree with PP’s. I live in Knoxville and go to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg often. The weather around here has always been crazy, but the past few years it’s been extra crazy! It is very likely that you could run into some snow, especially in the higher elevations like Gatlinburg. I would highly recommend renting/borrowing a AWD or 4WD vehicle and would advise againse a RWD car. Great pick for a honeymoon, though! There are a lot of fun things to do in the area around that time of the year!
