I’m getting married in 8 days (OMG!) and I’m starting to feel the cold come on. Stuffy nose, sore throat, I’m exhausted. It’s the last week and I have tons to do, so extra sleep is not really an option. Taking time off work isn’t really an option either.
I don’t want to medicate for what is really just a case of the sniffles right now, but I’m afraid it’s going to turn into a full blown cold by the end of the week and we leave Saturday. To top it all off, we’re celebrating FI’s birthday tomorrow with his family and two of them have been sick for the last week too!
Ack! How do I keep from getting sick now!

Actually, I would say, *embrace* getting sick now and get it out of your system before the wedding next week. This is your body telling you to SLOW DOWN, get lots of sleep and fluids, eat right, etc. Listen to it. You will enjoy your wedding next week so much more if you do.

I agree with the PP – I did the same thing as you and over-medicated leading up to the big day. What happened? I came down with full blown strep throat the day before the wedding. Definitely slow down, eat healthy and get lots of rest. Adrenaline kicked in on the big day and I didn’t concentrate on feeling sick because of all the happy feelings I had…so no matter what, the day will be amazing – promise!

Drink lots of orange juice and take a vitamin C capsule, at least 500 mgs. Also, there are some herbal/zinc supplements you can try. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon!

Take zicam now!! Seriously, I’m not a big homeopathic person but zinc supplements really work, at least for me. But you’ve got to take it as soon as you feel the symptoms coming on. Also, lots of vitamins C and D for immune support!

Cold Snap, you get it at Walmart or a homeopathic store, take it every two hours, seriously, with a lot of water and Gatorade if you can stand it…eat strong, that means meals that pack a punch calorie wise since fighting off a bug takes fuel, when you can sleep make sure you do, avoid as much stress as possible and affirm to yourself that you are becoming well…it’s ok!

I got sick 2 weeks before my wedding, and like PP’s mention above, start loading up on the Vit C, slow down and get more rest, and start taking Zicam/Cold-eez/Airborn to keep your body’s resistance and immune system strong! Just ride it through, better to get sick now so that by the time your wedding day comes you’ll be back to yourself.:) Feel better!

COLD FX and Emergen-C! I swear by it, gets me better in no time. Hopefully you will feel better soon!

@smiles4jo: When I feel a cold coming on, I swear by Zicam. It’s not really medicine per say, just zinc lozenges, but it usually nips a cold in the bud for me, or at least makes it last only a couple of days. The trick is you have to take it as soon as you feel a cold coming on, and then consistently every few hours for the next day or two. Also, TONS of liquids, especially OJ or another juice with vitamin C. Lots of chicken noodle soup, too. Other than that, rest is really important. Some people say taking hot bathes can help you steam it out a bit, too (similar to mimicking a fever).
I know you’re really busy right now but try to sleep as much as you can!

Honestly, I’d go to the doctor. I got a minor sinus infection two weeks before my wedding, and had I not gone to the doctor, I know it would’ve turned into a full-fledged sick-in-bed-for-a-week thing. If you have radioactive snot (ie, gree, yellow, etc) or a fever, just go get an antibiotic. It’ll kill whatever you have and you’ll be ok for the wedding, but do it before it gets so bad you need to be on your butt for a few days.
That and do what PP’s said- vitamin C, slow down, SLEEP!

Antioxidants like crazy! Every meal should have antioxidants and you will kick the cold in the ass! Drink 2-3 cups of green tea as well! Good Luck!!!

@Lepidoptera: agree! I down green tea capsules and echinacea pills, plus vitamin C. Get tons of rest and I also suggest TheraFlu. It’s my magic “feel better now” remedy.

Vitamin C + Zinc + lots and lots of water + sleep. If you can, take a day off of work and rest and get it over with and out of your system before it gets worse!
