We haven't rented out a camp, but where we are getting married at (Big Canoe) my fiance didn't originally want to get married there because he said it sounded too much like a summer camp!
You should definitely ask if you can decorate and if there are stipulations. Like if you can't hang stuff certain areas, etc. Also you may want to get a quote on chairs, tables, etc anything that won't be included. You may come out cheaper going somewhere that has a similiar setting but includes some of the things you will need. Also don't forget you will need to find an officiant.
That sounds like a lot of fun!
You might want to ask about their alcohol policy if you're planning on having alcohol. Also if you plan on using (or your caterers using) an onsite kitchen you might want to make sure the gas/electric is going to be on when your there. I would also be curious about camp fire regulations (i.e., where can you have them etc) and if there are cabins what the beds come with (sheets, blankets etc).
@jenn6051: I hadn't thought about the decoration stipulations, but that might be a good idea. I already asked about tables and chairs, but I will need to ask how many there are. We already have an officiant, so that is solved!
@inahat: I love the idea! I have tried making a list of things that I need to ask about, but any other suggestions would be great. The Camp Director said the last wedding they had their was 7 or 8 years ago, so hopefully since it is not a well know venue, it will be easier to work with. We won't be having alcohol, so that also makes things easier.
Here is the list I have so far...
Capacity - Electricty - Cabins - Chapel - Linens for tables and beds - Kitchen usage - Anything off limits -
Anything I am forgetting?
One of the Bees, Mrs. Veggie, had a camp wedding! You should read her blogs from the beginning for inspiration, she had a fun, beautiful wedding!
hello, i havent done this before. but i have some ideas for decor.
outdoor weddings are fun and it gives you lots of options for decor, it all depends on your theme or colors.
think about, lithing( if the wedding will be at night)
tables, tent, chairs, possible chair covers, table cloth, hanging decor, centerpiece.
it also gives you the oportunity to DIY lots of things like paper lanterns, paper pomanders, centerpieces, napking rings.....)
I love this idea.
There was just a post about a camp wedding on greenweddingshoes the other day.

And there was another thread with lots of pics/links a couple months ago.
@bridesmomma: Thanks for the heads up about Mrs. Veggie. I will check it out.
@Naiexoxo: I am loving the look of homemade, diy, but I want simple as well. I don't want to go overboard. Thanks for the ideas.
@Theresa90405: I will definitely have to check out that link. Thanks!
I just photographed a wedding at a camp, and I have to say, as long as you take the time and effort to create an emotion with your decor, then it will be BEAUTIFUL!
The one I shot most recently was okay, could have been better- mainly because the decor fought with the setting. However, I have worked at summer camps for 7+ years, and have seen events as formal as black tie required turn out magnificently on a budget at them, and have seen summer barbecues that I will remember for the rest of my life simply becuase of the magical settings.
Camps are the PERFECT place to marry; definitely worth it! Go for it!!
If you want to talk ideas, or would like to see some inspiration, or need some help deciding on decor- shoot me a message! I have worked many of these of events at camps, and you will have the time of your life!
Just wanted to let you know that this totally inspired me- I just contacted a summer camp near me to see if they do weddings!
So this probably goes unsaid but... ITS A GREAT IDEA!!!
@Whoopsie Daisy:I sent you a PM!
@Miss Fish: I guess I should say thanks for using me as inspiration. If you have any ideas or if you need anything feel free to PM meet.
I'm going to bump this, so if anyone has anymore ideas please share them!
s'mores for favors would be perfect
or a s'mores bar
Here's a checklist one bride used-maybe some of the questions will work for you
Did you see Mrs. DG's wedding? Hers was at a camp, and it was beautiful! Hold on a sec, I'll dig up the link.
ETA: Found them!

Hi bees,
I think I have finally found a venue that might actually work out! It is a summer camp in Southwest Missouri. I spoke with the Camp Director, and he said it would be $250 to rent out the entire camp for a weekend. It sounds like an amazing deal!
Have any of you had your wedding at a summer camp? What questions should I ask? Anyone have any ideas for decor? Meals? Anything else?
