Maybe you could post a picture? That would really help us see exactly what needs to be done.

@Leesh: ditto!

OP: the doors will be up so guests/ servers can move in/out of the garage? But will people be eating in the garage or generally hanging out in there? If not, I would suggest draping some plain white fabric or even a light weight plastic (similar to what cheap plastic table cloths are made from) and leave it at that. if you were planning on having dancing or people hanging out/seating in the garage then I would say maybe go a little further and add pops of decor either hung from the cieling or walls etc.

However if it is prmarily going to be a ‘kitchen’ space then I doubt guests will be spending much time in there.

Yes. Draping some white fabric across the whole area where the doors are. You could even do the whole ceiling if people will be spending a lot of time in there. Draping with fabric can be pretty inexpensive if you do a lot of research. You may be able to find some sort of fabric wholesaler or fabric district. I really think you can do something really beautiful with that.

Another bee recommended I use tobacco cloth for my draping project. It is super inexpensive and lightweight. I am going for more glam so I am thinking of using navy organza with white lights behind it to look like stars.

We decorate the garage for parties at my parents house.. for a wedding buy either huge rolls of gossamer or fabric. Staple gun it to the beams and walls. It looks awesome!
