My mom has a beautiful house in Citrus Heights. It’s not the biggest but if you use the backyard, front yard, in the house, and the garage, it works out perfectly for 120 people. Has anyone got married at their parent’s house and it’s been a success? It would add onto our vintage southern theme. Thanks in advance on everyone’s comments 🙂

@tobemrstaddesse: I didn’t do it but I thought about it. What stopped me was the expense of renting/bringing in everything. I found out that getting tents, electric supplies, catering supplies, food, etc was really expensive!

@tobemrstaddesse: a friend of mine had hers in her MIL’s backyard. They hired a marquee and caterers, plus the caterers provided the tables/chairs/covers. I believe it was a success and the cost was really low. I would do the same if my parents had lots of space at their place

My cousin had her wedding ceremony in my grandma’s front yard. She has a very large property and the house sits far back, so the front yard is huge! She didn’t have the reception there though and although I’m uncertain I believe it is because the house is rather small and wouldn’t hold many people comfortably. My other cousin had her wedding in a friend of hers backyard. It was a small evening ceremony with only a short cake and punch type reception after. it worked well for that but I think it depends on the type pf receptipn you’re having. If you want sit down dinner, I don’t think you can really ask people to dine in the garage…

@laciekate: thank you all for your replies. we have connections in the family for food and the dj and officiant and all that. I didn’t think about the tables and chairs thing however! Lol have to make sure this is the one spot I want to have our wedding at!

One of our very own bees, Alaskin17, just had a backyard wedding in February and posted pictures the other day. My jaw literally dropped, there was so much gorgeous detail I felt like I was looking at Style Me Pretty! Prepare to swoon.
You can see the pictures and thread, here!
Obviously, I think a backyard wedding is totally doable, and wonderful if there’s the space for it! What a wonderful thing to be able to visit your grandparent’s AND remember your wedding day at the same time, I think it would be amazing! Not to mention all of the personal attachment will make your day that much more special.
