I have lusted over a David Yurman Cable wedding band for months.
A couple of days ago my darling FI decides it’s time to go see it in person and the only boutique is at a very high end mall. Seriously the cheapest store is a Saks, which is fun because I’m huge on window shopping and bargain hunting. I digress so I’m trying on the band of my dreams and i realize that it looks awful. Even two sales attendants the security guard (gotta love it when they are honest) thought it was a tragedy. In an effort to cheer me up FI proposes that we try every jewelry store in the mall (swoon.)
Harry Winston, Bvlgari, DY, Channel Fine Jewelry and De Beers unanimously agreed that the best match are two thin 2mm diamond bands in white gold. UGH I was feeling even more frustrated because I wanted something unique that blended well with my engagement ring but I could also wear alone. At De Beers they offered a yellow diamond 1.5mm band in 18k yellow gold but it wasn’t at the store. I tried the Adonis Rose band and it was beautiful but it didn’t wow me.
At this point I was feeling very blah and hopeless and figured I would just have to settle for the two white on white bands. Which to be honest I would buy from a smaller local jeweler at a fraction of the price and forget about designer. I do plan on going back to De Beers to see the canary band in person when it’s in because the picture online looks fab.
Finally we arrive at Tiffany & Co. honestly that store had the best atmosphere. The other stores had the cold snobby air which I love usually but I was on a mission. I explained to the sales associates there what I wanted “unique but blendy and substantial and blah blah blah.” I was pointed to the Swing ring and I really liked it! It totally fits my criteria and looks good with my engagement ring.
BUT I’m still not 100% sold. I still want to see an actual yellow on yellow band and the last dream ring which is the Cartier Trinity.
Silver lining to all of this is that my ring is a cathedral setting so pretty much anything will sit flush! It’s about 7mm tall and I have 4mm clearance for almost any band. What do “ya’ll” think? Ideas, advice and/or suggestions? I feel lost in a sea of shinies.
