So… I’m curious what other people think of this situation.
The dilemma: I ordered wedding bands for FI and myself from a small, local jeweler (wanting to support the local economy! and also wanting to deal with someone in person for issues of style, sizing, etc.). I picked them up last week. FI’s is great. Mine is not want I want. Apparently, there is such a thing as “dome height” on a ring. This aspect of the ring was never discussed with me during the ordering process. I provided them with the metal, width, ring size, and engraving details, and I asked that the band have a “rounded edge,” as I knew there was a difference between a round edge and a flat edge. They provided me with a picture of FI’s ring, but never a picture of mine. Turns out, they ordered me a “high dome” ring. After picking up the ring and trying to figure out why I don’t like it, I have since discovered (thanks, Internet), that I wanted a low dome ring. FWIW, my e-ring (which the same salesperson had resized for me) is a low dome. I never even knew high dome rings existed, and I certainly don’t like them.
Because my wedding band is a half size and is palladium, it was apparently a custom order, so they are saying that they don’t allow returns on custom orders. They said they would not be able to turn the ring into the style that I want, either. Basically, their solution is that I am “unfortunately” out the money for this ring that I don’t want. I fully admit to not ever clarifying that I wanted a low dome ring; however, I certainly never asked for a high dome, either. Sure, I was a super ignorant customer 🙁 , but I also contend that I went to them, as the experts, expecting them to help me with an issue like this. I am of the opinion that they should either correct the issue or issue me a refund. This is something that I will be wearing every day for the rest of my life. It needs to be right.
What do you think? Honestly! Do you think my point is valid, or do I need to suck it up and spend money on a second wedding ring that meets my now-informed standards? (Note: paid with a CC, so if I feel my claim is valid, I can ask my CC company to do a chargeback. Don’t really want this level of drama, but I’ll do it if people think I have good grounds.)
🙁 🙁 🙁 Just because I never wear jewelry ever and don’t know anything. 🙁
