My Fiance picked out my engagement ring without me (he did a great job!). It has channel set, princess cut side diamonds.
When we went wedding band shopping, I knew I didn’t want a channel set princess cut band. And I guess I just ASSUMED that since my e-ring had channel set side diamonds that I HAD to get a channel set band to go with it.
I ended up falling in love with this channel set round cut half eternity band (Pic with my e-ring and without).
But now I’m sort of having second thoughts about the channel set band. If asked, I’d tell you that I’ve always liked the look of prong set half eternity bands better.
I’m not sure why the gaps between the little round cut diamonds in the channel set band bother me. But they do. I work in daycare and feel like baby food and snot will get stuck down there…
So basically I want your opinions.
- How does it look??
- How do you think a prong-set band would look versus my current one? (Should I consider one?)
- Is it bad luck to exchange a wedding band before the wedding? (YIKES!)
- Are channel set rings more durable than prong set bands?
If any bees have a “mis-matched” channel set/prong set mix, please post pics!

I think it looks great! But I do agree with you about channel-set bands… I never seem to like them much; even when I do find a style I like, I would always prefer it in prong-set.

Well it’s totally personal preference. I can tell you that I prefer shared prong over channel, but I think that band goes nicely with your ring. I don’t think it’s bad luck in any way to exchange it if you want, and yes channel set will be more durable (and some would say more comfortable) than shared prong.

@MrsAmyBeiber: I think the prong-set band would look better. I have a channel set engagement ring too and I found that a prong-set band looked the best with it. If you want me to upload a picture, I can.

I actually really like the channel set band! It matches your e-ring very well and looks very comfortable. FWIW I have a channel set gemstone band, and although gunk can get down in the channel sometimes, it’s SUPER easy to clean – just take an old toothbrush or jewelry cleaner brush and scrub it out now and then. When i wear that band, I do that each night and it looks great.
I currently have a prong-set eternity band now, and although it’s easier to keep clean, I’m often worried about one of the little diamonds falling out if I hit/bend a prong..I check it often and will take it off if I’m just around the house or cleaning, gardening, etc. So there’s pros/cons to both kinds of rings.
And no, it’s not bad luck! Think of getting the ring you really want as GOOD luck regardless of exchanging it 🙂

This channel-set band you found looks great with your e-ring! And you seem to love it, so it’s a great match.
I always find prong-set stones look better than channel-set. Having said that, I have worn a single channel set eternity band with cz, and I found it was soooo comfortable. No prongs getting caught in anything. And since you work at a daycare, it might be more convenient for you to wear the channel-set.
Your choice! 😉

Thank you so much, ladies!
I done a lot of thinking (with your input, of course!) and I’ve come to the conclusion that the channel set band is for me.
Go with your gut, they say!
I fell in love with this in the store. I put it on again at home (just to see how it looked) and I realized why I fell in love with it all over again!
Thanks again everyone!
