Nah they don’t need to match. You should each choose a style you like. Ignore the sales people.

@ana77:  No way honey, having different wedding rings will not say anything about the significance of your marriage!  I actually can’t think of anyone off the top of my head I know IRL who has a matching wedding band to her husband.  My FH and I are not getting matching bands.  He wanted something really simply, just a plain palladium band (one of his good friends had a palladium band and really liked it so FH went with that) but I want a platinum diamond eternity band.  Completely different!

That’s silly!  My FI and I had the same issues, so we got differnt bands!  Have you considered going online and doing your ring shopiing?  Many of the jewelers over here offer the online buying option, and there are also a lot of repitable on-line jewelers.

We’re planning to have mismatched bands as well.  I was a little peeved that my mom said that the bands and we must be traditional.  And, she said she isn’t sure if the priest will ok it.  So, I asked our priest and he said, “You buy and wear what you like.  The rings doesn’t make you married.  The marriage license makes you married.”

You can do whatever you want!  Don’t let them tell you what you’re supposed to do.  You two are the ones who are going to have to wear these rings for the rest of your lives!

you can wear whatever you want! The ring is only a symbol of your love and commitment.

we are having mismatched bands as well… we DID not buy the matching band to my ring..we went with something competely different and he picked out one that he liked.

Mine has diamonds around and he went with tungsten ( which might be a awesome idea for your FI)

@shalynnmarie:  Oh your band is so pretty!!!

FI has not picked his band out, but it will most likely be titanium or platinum (I want to get him a platinum band, he wants titanium), no stones, maybe with a different metal inlay. My band is 18kt white gold, 2.2mm 3/4 eternity with round bezel-set diamonds. They definitely do not match. I’d say you should get whatever bands you guys want!

Your wedding bands do not need to match. Originally my husbands and mine sort of did, but at this point he still has his original white gold and diamond & sapphire pave band which he adores, and I have a totally new set. Our marriage is still PLENTY significant – what an idiotic thing for that sales person to say!

Also, just a note, skin tone itself has nothing to do with what looks better, it is all about the skin undertones. I am very, very light and pale (natural redhead)…but yellow gold looks better on me as I am warm toned. My husband on the other hand has darker more olive skin, but he looks better in white metals as he has cooler undertones.  More people are cool toned than warm toned.

Here is his band (with my original wedding ring). Very blingy but he loves and it looks amazing on him, he gets tons of compliments on it and as I said he just loves it, if he lost it he wants the same ring all over again:

These are my new rings:
