@phoebe.star:  I am not a fan of opening links (worried about viruses), could you copy and post some of your expenses?

I think a 10K budget for a DW is a little bit unrealistic, but that’s just my personal opinion…FI and I are having a local wedding in Cali on a 10K budget and we’re even having trouble staying within that amount of money…

Ouch, that’s the problem with DW.. they are lovely and all, but very expensive!

I can’t imagine paying $6000 JUST for the venue [no ceremony]. My venue is $2000 total, but we have it for 2 nights, 3 days, and the ceremony will be there.. + theres 7 boarding rooms for our guests!

Holy crap. $2500 for the church?! Also, does the $6k include food and booze?

And dayum! That sounds like a killer honeymoon!

@phoebe.star:  If youre looking to trim the current budget…

No favors. Most people don’t like them, won’t take them home, or, at the very least, won’t miss them.

Can you skip/cut back on lighting/candles? Are those things really necessary? The venue is pricey as it is… I feel like they should provide decent lighting.

I’d say skip STDs and do them online, but you ARE doing a destination wedding, and you’ve already paid for them, anyway. Can you cut back on the invitations? Limit the number of enclosures (directions, hotel info, etc.) and put the extra info (other than date, time, location & rsvp) on the wedding website, if you’ve got one.

What’s the breakdown on the flowers? I think you could spend a lot less, but I’m in another country where flowers are cheap, and having a wedding on a boat lol… so my flower costs are very low. I assume you’ve got your own bouquet and then… what else? Consider scaling down on flower decor or replacing it with something cheaper. What kind of flowers are you looking into? In season & locally grown are usually cheaper… as is white.

Holy crap.  You must be getting some epic invites because I think the nice ones we’re planning on getting for our 50-60ish wedding are less than half that.

Obviously your reception venue is quite expensive – is it too late for you to downsize the package you’re getting there, or change from an open bar to only supplying beer and wine or something?

The church is crazy expensive too! I was under the impression that most churches only required a donation of a couple of hundred to hire them – are there any cheaper churches in the area?

What is “Second line”? Is it something you can live without?

Can you change the photographer’s package to a slightly cheaper one? Even if you downgrade one “level” you might save a few hundred. Try asking if you can go without the albums or engagement photo session and get an extra hour of photography or something.

Could you go without the reception band and just have an iPod or laptop hooked up to some speakers?

$2000 for flowers is WAY over anything I have ever seen before – do you really need that much? Can you just get flowers for bouquets and nothing else? Can you swap out expensive flowers for cheaper ones?

The wedding rings are also pretty expensive – I know that’s something that most people feel they need to splurge on because it’s the symbol of the commitment (and pretty much the only part of the day you’ll actually take away with you!) but, is $2,000 each a little much? What are you looking at as your rings, and can you find a better deal? There are really nice rings available for just a fraction of that cost, so if you look around, I’m sure you could find something better.

Do you already have a pair of shoes that you could wear as wedding shoes, rather than $500 on brand new ones? Especially if you don’t see yourself wearing your wedding shoes again after the wedding, it could really be a waste of money.

What’s your target budget at this point?  Obviously you’re not going to get back down to $10K.

Oh my! I would cut that invite cost down a lot, remember these usually end up in the trash. Use sites like vistaprint for simple invites that will be WAY less than 1k. You can even design your own have them printed.

Does your ballroom have house center pieces? If your ballroom is already gorgeous you really don’t need expensive flower center pieces.

flowers…you could cut that down significantly with a bouquet/bouts only with one large ceremony arrangement.

personally when attending weddings I like to see the personal touches… And usually these are the most fun to plan and the cheapest! Be creative!

Why not skip the favors and make a small donation to a meaningful charity?

Most of all it is going to be the BEST day ever whether you spend 10k or 25k. It’s up to you! πŸ™‚

hope this was helpful!

You had a 10k budget with 4k going to the rings from tiffany’s?

2k is crazy for flowers.. 1k is crazy for invites. I’m a DIY bride but I even if I weren’t I would say you need to shop around a bit more with these prices.

6k for the venue? Girl my DW’s venue was like $600!
