Miss Squid:

I’ve checked out Haute So Sweet and we’re leaning toward Empire Cake. They’re both in Manhattan. Our cake budget is around $1000 and both those bakeries fit into it. I should add that we’re looking at tiered cakes for 120 people.

Hope that helps!

Canelle Patisserie in Queens. I know, I know, not nyc or bk but they made my wedding cake and it was 3-4 tiers for $650 (I got married 2 yrs ago so maybe bakeries are charging more now). Ours was red velvet and tasted amazing. we tasted a bunch of diff samples which were all delicious. We also go their often for cakes and other goodies (almond croissants are out if this world) they got great ratings on yelp as well.

I used Baked in Red Hook. We had one two tiered cake and two one tier cakes. It was under $500 for 100 people. It was the best deal I found. Most bakeries wanted at least $1000. It was also delicious. I would highly recommend them.

Miss Squid:  Another idea to consider is a Bee’s Knees Baking Co. Wedding “Tower”. This was included in our package at City Winery, but I wanted a traditional cake, so I negotiated it out of our cost. It has good reviews and a lot of brides have had them. It is more rustic, if that is what you’re going for. I think it might be on the more affordable side of “wedding cake,” too, if that is important.

Miss Squid:  Congrats on the new venue, by the way.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I wanted to share one other vendor I’m using that might be helpful for you. I don’t know what you’re planning in terms of centerpieces/florals, but we’re working with Rock Paper Scissors and so far she’s been great. The owner, Ara, is really flexible in pricing and she’s working with a ton of non-floral materials for us to help keep cost down. Plus, she does all the decorating before and all the tear down at the end of the night.

Good luck in your planning!

You can try Butterfly Cake Shop in Manhattan. They offer a la carte cakes and are super affordable. You can get a 4 tier cake for under $600.

We booked our 5 tier cake at Pasticceria Bruno on SI for under $1,000 to feed 190. Sal won awards and a baking contest. The cakes are delicious and can be decorated however you want! We are doing chocolate cake with canoli cream and fresh strawberries. Each tier is alternated between round and square and will be textured differently (ribbon, flowers, quilt, etc) with a bunch of cascading flowers from the top down. Yummm I dream about this cake LOL
