Horray!! I picked up the lastest issue of The Knot wedding magazine and I found the perfect cake!! It is super romantic and I love the icing detail. I did a quick sketch of my orchid design. Also going to have gold fondant ribbon instead of the grey.
I plan to try making the sugar flowers for the top of the cake – does anyone know if it’s hard to make them?? Should I take a class?

I make them, it’s not hard once you know how to do it. I’m also considering making them for my wedding cake. Check out your local craft store, they usually have classes (I took some at Michael’s). I wouldn’t recommend doing it without classes, unless you’re going to start practicing now. The good thing about fondant/gumpaste flowers is that you can make them days ahead of time and they’ll last, so it’s not like you’ll have to be doing it the day before the wedding like you would if you were baking the whole cake. Feel free to PM me if you want details.

I make them. I’ve done them for friend’s wedding cakes before. And for competition. They are very fun and can come out beautiful but are very time consuming. The great thing is they last forever so start now and you can save them if you want after the wedding is over!
