i have a cake lady who is lovely cakes are to die for and she only wants $2 per slice should i get a cake or cupcakes what are you having what do you suggest oh and please give flavors thanks loves
I think you can have both. Why not order a small cake (for about 20 pp) and some cupcakes (depending on the number of guests)?
That way you can have a cake to cut for the pictures and cupcakes in different flavors, so your guest can pick what they want. I think some good flavors are plain vanilla, chocolate, red velvet and maybe a fruity one, like strawberry or blueberry.
@vanillaicing: ok thanks my baker can do a 2tier for 100 and cupcakes at $2 ea i may go with thant
We're doing a cake with two flavors: vanilla with chocolate fudge filling and chocolate with fresh strawberries filling.
We're giving out cookies as favors, so doing cupcakes would be silly in our case.
We're doing a traditional black cake/rum cake for cutting (2-3 tiers) and cupcakes as out favors - red velvet, vanilla, chocolate and maybe one more flavor.
We decided to go with a small cutting cake (feeds 4-6 people), and the rest cupcakes. Our cake is going to be peanut butter (my FI and my favorite flavor) with butter cream frosting, and the cupcakes are Pink Champagne, Salted Caramel, Guinness and Coconut with cream cheese frosting
I'm following this. We just met with our cake lady and she said name any flavors and she'll make them. We have four total layers, I know one is going to vanilla cake with strawberry filling cause that's my favorite. We just need three more and it's like picking a needle out of a haystack. Haha. So I'm interested to see what everyone else says....
@navybride0428: I love your flavours!
I make cakes for weddings a lot (and cuppies and cake pops). Let me tell you, vanilla and chocolate and red velvet are SO overdone! I know people like to pick generic flavours so that people will like them, but come on! There are a million flavour combos out there people!
boston cream, Chai latteé, pink champagne, orange Dreamsicle, cherry bomb, key lime, there are so many unique flavours!
@madteaparty: we are doing a sweets bar and im making oreo truffles choco stuffed strawberries and things like that
@navybride0428: i was doing pink champange cake with strawberry filling and an orange creamsicle no filling yet
We are doing an 8 cascading tier cake, chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, carrot & marble for our anniversary tier.
We're doing a mini dessert bar, but we get an anniversary cake for free, and, same thing, we get to choose whatever we want. So we are going with an almond cake with cherry filling. No real reason, except we are not really "cake people" and this is my favorite type of cupcake.
@primcess: ive never had almond hum sounds like something i should get a sample of from my cake lady
We had 5 cupcake flavors:
lavender-my personal favorite! sounds weird, but so light and yummy
apple cinamon
A pumpkin one (fall wedding)
red velvet
and a double chocolate
@mrsedwardslpn: This was the cake stand [I literally JUST purchased it]. We will most likely get a fountain like that as well for the added effect.
I like the idea of getting a small cake for cutting and cupcakes for eating. That's what I'm planning to do.
For flavors, go classic first - vanilla, chocolate, red velvet... Then go for some weirder flavors. A friend of mine had a blue raspberry cake. It was AMAZING. Things like lemon, carrot, strawberry or coffee would probably go over well. A couple episodes of Cupcake Wars will give you plenty of ideas!
@FortiesFlare: Amen to that! My mom wanted to go with a red velvet, but I thought that exact thing! I want my guests to be excited about what they are about to try, rather than going with the boring same old same old. I said hands down Guinness since we will be having at least 15 sailors there (my FI is a submariner), and I think that will peak their interest in dessert ;)
@Bostongrl25: Oh my goodness the lavender flavor sounds so yummy!! I had lavender vanilla English tea the other day and it was to DIE for. Seriously people don't know how good lavender is in stuff other than perfumes
@mrsedwardslpn: Maybe a custard or vanilla butter cream filling for the orange creamsicle?
@Bostongrl25: sounds really good but about that lavender idk about that
@jenilynevette: its very pretty u must be having a huge wedding
@mrsedwardslpn: anything with cream cheese frosting! :) cupcakes are easier to figure out the appropriate quantity.
@CatyLady: this looks pretty i love basic flavors some flavors are just overwelming vanilla is always a go to
@lawbride88: i thought a cream cheese filling for my orange creamsicle its to die for
@navybride0428: i may have to try it u guys are making me wonder
@FortiesFlare: i love the taste of pink champange cake its so good any more suggestions are greatly appreciated
@navybride0428: hmmmm ive never guiness flavored caked id try it
@mrsedwardslpn: hmm maybe red velvet with cream cheese frosting, chocolate with coconut (like devil's food cake), and vanilla with strawberry filling and a vanilla frosting (if cupcakes). nice assortment.
@lawbride88: sounds great i love red velvet but it seems too heavy i was trying to stick with something light maybe fruity maybe chocolate i made these muffins this weekend and im sure i gained a pound or 2 decadent

@mrsedwardslpn: red velvet and chocolate are like the SAME THING except red velvet has food coloring and is lighter on the chocolate.
@lawbride88: thats exactly what it is i bake for hobby the coconut made the other cake more summer and made it a little more appealing i love both just not for a summer wedding plus my mom still makes me a german chocolate cake every yr for my birthday (in dec) it is def my fav
@mrsedwardslpn: well, just go with what YOU WANT. are you doing the baking then?
oh heavens no ive hired a baker she the best i my city and she happens to be my sis in law
@mrsedwardslpn: oh sweet! Well, just have an assortment--better to allow the guests to decide what they want.
pretty much i figure if i do cupcakes i can have like 4-5 flavors she want to show off her baking so she dont want me to have traditional flavors i had to remind her she already had her wedding lol
@mrsedwardslpn: Very yummy! It comes with a tasty cream cheese frosting and the cake itself is Guinness flavored. It's exactly like a chocolate cupcake, but with a little zing added to it :) I hate Guinness in its true form, but I love these cupcakes
@navybride0428: i hate beer but it just sounds to die for maybe ill get a sample for that
