Ours didn't.... I haven't heard of a bakery that would charge for a tasting fee. Maybe call around to the bakeries you are thinking of using and ask?
I have never encountered a bakery that charged for a tasting session. I would be skeptical if one did.
Our bakery charges $25, but if you choose to use them for your wedding cake it goes toward the balance. Essentially you'd only pay for the tasting if you chose to go with someone else.
I would think that if you do the tasting after you've booked them and payed your deposit, then it would be included in the price.
However, if you're just going around to different bakeries to taste and then make a decision, I can see why they would charge you.
I went to 4 different bakeries (one I tasted twice before booking) and no one charged a fee. I didn't even think to ask about it.
We have two that we are looking at.
One of them allows up to 4 people at the first tasting, then they charge $25 for each additional person. They also charge $25 for each additional tasting. If you purchase from them, those extra fees go toward the cost. This one also requires an appointment for the cake tasting.
The other one doesn't charge a fee and you can have as many people at the tasting as you want, but the tasting is once a month for several hours and you don't have to schedule an appointment.
I went to this cupcake place and they just gave me a 20% discount for tasting. But this another place in SF is giving us 24(!) free cupcakes for tasting so my FI and I were really surprised =)
I've haven't been charged a fee thus far. A fee would certainly deter me from even attending a tasting as well!
Our charged $20 for the tasting, and then if we went with them, it was deducted from our final bill.
I didn't see a problem with that. I guess mainly because if the cake tastes fine, we would pretty much just go with them anyway. Cake wasn't a huge deal to us, so we just found a baker that did cakes the way we wanted them done, asked ahead of time if she could do what we wanted, and we did a tasting. We booked the first baker we met with.

Hello!
I just started looking around for wedding cake/cupcakes and was wondering.. Do bakeries usually charge for a wedding cake tasting?
