Looking for opinions/recommendations on wedding cake providers. As a non-local, I’m not familiar with all the bakeries in the area.
My ideal cake would be a hummingbird cake, but not sure if I’ll find that this far north.
Looking for recommendations – the good, bad, and ugly. Who did you go with and why? What helped you make a final decision? Thanks!

I had two top two bakeries that I liked. The first was Prantl’s in Shady Side. They have this awesome burnt almond torte cake, that reminds me of the hummingbird cake you mentioned. I googled it to see what it was. They gave us an assortment of cakes to try they were yummy.
The other one, the one we went with Bethel Bakery. They were a preferred vendor of our reception location so we got free delivery, that’s what helped us make our choice, along with the cake, we had a yellow cake with pumpkin filling. We had a fall wedding. We loved our cake!

We went with Lincoln Bakery. It had solid reviews and their cake is built into the cost of catering at the Chadwick where we are having our reception. I dont have any idea of what a hummingbird cake is though so I cant speak to thier ability to make one.

We’re doing cupcakes…but Oakmont Bakery and Potomac Bakery both have really good cakes.

We tried a LOT of different places and weren’t thrilled with any of them. We ended up buying an amazing selection of desserts (including our triple-layer chocolate cutting cake) from Gullifty’s in Squirrel Hill. The prices were very reasonable, and the service was EXCELLENT.

I’d go with Bethel Bakery

I love Gullifty’s! Its my indulgent place. I have heard really great things about Bethel Bakery and my friend just had her beautiful wedding cake from there. Both the cake and the icing were delicious and people really loved it! I am getting my cake from Kriebel’s Bakery because it is included in my wedding package. I have found it to be really soft and the icing is amazing! We are having a white almond cake with buttercream and a light chocolate filling.
