I think you should totally coordinate with the decor you have, and I think that your earlier color scheme with the venue sounds a little loud. Try putting them into an inspiration board together and seeing if you like it. You could also do a color board. I did one using coulorlovers.com or something like that.
I think it's a tough call. I think you should always ensure your that you are comfortable with the colors you choose working with your venue. Everyone will have different thoughts on what will and won't work. That being said don't poo-poo a venue because the colors you think you want might clash! you can always make things work , and I know I changed my mind a million times in the process. Good luck , congrats and happy planning.
Personally, I think you can make it work. When I go to a wedding, I notice the bride & groom, the tables, and the cake. I never pay attention to the carpet, chairs, etc. But I do think you have to make sure the decorations have enough pizazze to distract from the carpet and gold lighting.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic">Hello all!
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic">This is my first post! I am recently engaged and have been scoping out wedding reception sites. After searching high and low online and in person for the best bang for the buck i FINALLY found a place I love. I was actually <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline; font-weight: bold">giddy! when i left there. So then my mind started swirling about all of the different things to start planning. And of course, the wedding colors came into mind. I had already come to the conclusion that I wanted to do a color scheme of Robins Egg Blue, Silver and White. The ballroom at the reception site has a red and gold carpet and gold accents. Silly nit-picking me is worried about clashing! Am I crazy for this? Should I adjust my colors to match the room? Do other people worry about these things or am I the only one!
