Hey Guys!
Any other brides with their wedding date 11-11-11??
Or any other quirky-cute dates??
Congratulations!!!
And welcome to the bee :-)
We are getting married 3-31-11.
If I thought I could wait that long, that would be a cool wedding date (We've already been engaged a year and will have been engaged 26 months when we finally get married!). Our date is 6/11/2011, so kinda cool with the 11s!
Thanks for the warm welcomes :) This site looks a tad addicting!!
All of those dates are cute!
mrsmurraytobe - wow I thought waiting 21 months was going to be long! They will be worth the wait :)
Ha o you have no idea!! I love this site and have a slight problem with being addicted ;) Yea, 26 or 21 months is definitely long, especially the 1st year but it's also fun getting to be the bride-to-be for so long. A lot of my gfs have super short engagements and really don't get to enjoy being engaged and theyve rushed the planning so in that respect, it's not so bad. Would I rather just get married already? Of course! But, it's still fun :) The 1st year seemed the longest and like it was too soon to really plan, even though I have been. Now that we are about a year out, I'm starting to freak out!
Good luck planning and don't let anyone tell you it's too soon to plan! I bought my dress and booked my wedding planner and church within a few months ha!
AGREED!!! I am glad we choose the engagement length that we did! I am not a fan of rushing, with my luck things would go awful! BUT..I don't think I have been this antsy for anything ever!
Thanks again, and good luck with all your planning as well :)
I'm not the only one! I love repeating dates! My birthday is 9.9.90, which means I turned 9 on 9.9.99 and 19 on 09.09.09 (the last single digit repeating date until 01/01/2101) and my best friend is 10/10. So it only seemed appropriate to get married on the ultimate repeating date! :)
Our runner-up date is 11/11/11. Our first date is 11/5/11. We're using chocolate and cobalt blue as our colors, with champagne to add a little lightness.
Quite excited to start looking for sites and venues!
I'm an 11.11.11 bride!!!
Long engagement but it will give us time to plan and save!
The 11.11.11 concept is actually kind of new to me (guess I am way out of the loop, lol). I don't mean to offend anyone--and I think most of you are American, so maybe it's just different in Canada--but is it normal to get married on Veterans' Day? I get that it's fun to have a triple-number wedding date...but in Canada, Nov 11 is Remembrance Day, which is really solemn, and we take a moment of silence to remember our soldiers. Are you 11.11.11 brides incorporating a "veterans" element to your wedding? (Even in a small part.) I understand you also have Memorial Day in May...but I always associate that with picnics, lol...is it also normal to have weddings on Memorial Day? Maybe it's just a difference in culture or whatever, but i can't help but be a bit uncomfortable with a Nov 11 wedding.
I really don't mean to offend; I'm just trying to understand if it's normal in the US, lol. :-)
November 11th is Veteran's Day in the U.S. but it is also Armistice Day, which marks the end of world war I (the end with both parties agreeing to stop fighting, which I think is a pretty happy occasion)
We don't really celebrate it though. I don't think people even get the day off. Maybe there are some sales at carpet warehouses, but not much else.
I didn't know it was big in Canada!
@elevencubed: Thanks for the clarification :-) Yeah, in Canada we have Remembrance Day, with morning ceremonies (and a moment of silence at 11am to remember those lost in wars). It is considered respectful to wear a poppy pinned to your lapel on Nov 11 (and the week preceeding it, too). The ceremonies are always really somber and pretty emotional. It's a federal holiday, so most places close/people get a day off (or a long weekend is created in lieu of...depends on what day of the week Nov 11 falls on). I guess the US is just very different in this regard, because before this thread, I had honestly never considered planning my wedding for that day; it just seemed so "off-limits." Great to learn the US perspective, though.
@Catstax Though 11.11.11 will be Veterans' Day, it's not as somber/solem as the Canadian Holiday. Thanks for your perspective!!
Veteran's Day is a federal holiday in the US and all banks and government offices will be closed. While there are ceremonies held in rememberance and in honor of veterans, many people also celebrate this day in a joyous way.
My grandfather and my future FI's father are both US Armed Services veterans. We believe that having our ceremony on this day will not only be convenient (Friday), but this day will allow us to honor the sacrifices that they made and to unite in love.
That is a cool date! Ours is 5/7/11 which kind of sounds cool cause it rhymes...
Oh, and we realized after we booked that it's mother's day. :/ But we couldn't change the date again and our date options were very limited!
@Catstax: Thanks so much for the information. I was having a bit of a hard time trying to figure out a theme; my colors are red, white and black and I was looking for a way to use them in a casual way (as in not so formal and stuffy). The theme kind of fell in my lap! Poppies! I wasn't intending to use anything veteran's day related but it is exactly what I was looking for. Also, it will not be too somber, because we don't usually associate Poppies with Veteran's Day as Americans.
@diva81esq: That sounds great! Are you planning on incorporating anything Veterans-related in your wedding (photos of your family in their service uniforms; a brief mention; etc.)?
Were getting married on 9.10.11.
Enjoy your fun date!
I'm so happy other people are getting married on a Tuesday :) My date is 1.11.11 my fiance fell in love with the numbers. When I told people it was a Tuesday they all freaked out. I love people who aren't afraid of using numbers :)
@Catstax: Absolutely, we're thinking photographs and momentos, but aren't sure of where to place them....we are definitely taking time out to thank and honor all Veterans in attendance (at the reception)
@nateswoman: I love that date, it will definitely be a new beginning for you both!
Mine is 11.11.11, too! :) We started dating on 8.8.08 (engaged on 12.21.08), so we wanted to continue the theme.
@kroegerk: Yes :) we planned ours to be 11 11 :) We want the theme to be 11 11 i wished for you BUT WE cant find anything!!
@Akennedy01: my birthday is 09 19 1989 , ( 9's) My grandmas was 9 19 1919 (9s) and we are getting married on 11 11 11 haah :) we should have done something with the 9s!
I noticed the comment about Veteran's day too, and I did think of it when I read your date. I think you are right that it won't be a problem... but if you start it at the eleventh hour... then I think you might be going a little too far with 11!
I am getting married 11/11/11 too, and super excited on choosing this date. We are currently living in Hawaii, so it will be a destination wedding for our friends and family!
We're 11-11-11 too! It's actually 3 years to the day of our first date! and 3 days before 2 years of engagement!
We are getting married on 11/11/11!!! I've been dreaming about this date forever and now it's finally happening! Veteran's Day has actually been a positive for our wedding - we are getting married in a Catholic Church, so we are able to be flexible with the time instead of sticking with 12pm or 3pm - which is typically if they have open mass at a later time on a Friday or Saturday...
Also, we are getting married in DC - and since it's the mecca of gov't employees - we are glad there won't be much traffic in the city on that day for our out of town friends and family!
YEAH for 11.11.11!! Make a wish!! :)
My fiance proposed on November 11 of this year and we are getting married on November 11, 2011!!
Wow! There are so many planning to get married on 11/11/2011 & I am as well getting married on that date =) I also hope for me & my fiance to beable to say our I Do's at 11:11 oclock :0) Congratulations, Good Luck to you all & God Bless!!!
Congrats! I'm assuming you mean 11:11am. I totally couldn't get up that early. Good on you! My SO wants to do something at 11:11pm. We are having an evening wedding.
That is such a GREAT idea, to do something at 11:11 PM, I am also having an evening ceremony! Have you decided what you are going to do yet? I guess I need to put my thinking cap on!! Any ideas or suggestions would be great!!
THANKS!!!
I haven't really thought about it too much since it was his idea. If we come up with anything good I'll post it on here.
