- Wedding: September 2014
So I’ve been engaged since July of this year and my parents have been pushing me to set a date since we made the announcement. I thought I had plenty of time to decide but my parents (and other family members) are becoming extremely anxious. The problem is I’m having trouble deciding whether I want a destination wedding or something local. I’ve always imagined myself having a small, intimate wedding (under 100). However, my fiance and I, both come from large, extended families. I thought that if we had a destination wedding, we could avoid having to invite everyone AND they wouldn’t be offended because destination weddings by design tend to be smaller affairs. This doesn’t sound like too big of a problem, right? Well I’ve been looking at and researching various destinations/resorts, i.e. Puerto Rico, the Carribbean and Mexico, and I can’t for the life of me find anything I love. The venue and ambiance are very important to me. I feel like if my guests are gracious enough to come, then it’s my duty to make sure the locale is amazing. Because of this dilemma, it seems easier to just plan something local. But then I would have to give up having the small, initimate wedding I’ve always wanted. Are my expectations completely out of wack? I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings but I also don’t want to show up to a wedding of 300+ people, it’s just not me. Do you have suggestions on wedding destinations or resorts that you’ve loved? Any words of advice, encourgaement, admonishment (ha) are welcome! Thanks!
