- Wedding: May 2013
I’m actually a lurker on wedding bee and never really had to post a topic until now.
My wedding is on May 19th.
I purchased my wedding dress from David’s Bridal in a city that’s 3 hours away. I found out a few months ago that a DB has opened up in my city, so I decided to take it there for alteration instead of the original DB I purchased my dress at.
My dress is a Vera Wang VW351090 – http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_One-Shoulder-Basket-Weave-Organza-Gown-VW351090
All I needed to do was:
- shorten the shoulder
- bustle, shorten hem
However on my 1st fitting, they shortened the dress but since it’s see-through you could see the high hem line, it was about 4 inches high! My mother pointed it out that the original dress’ hemline was only 2 inches. You will see in the image attached, left is before, right is after.
I’ve asked them to shorten the hem line. Was met with resistance from the seamstress 1 saying that she cut too much to her manager. Then finally saying “yes she can fix it”. The alterations manager said to leave it with them and see if they can fix the hem line.
After that conversation, I left my dress with DB and called the Alterations manager several times to confirm that it can be fixed. She reassured me many times saying yes they can fix it.
Well I just went for my 2nd fitting a few days ago and it took a turn for the worse. There was bunching in the hemming and it just looked worse than my 1st fitting! I was very upset and I spoke to the seamstress 2 saying the seamstress 1 ruined my dress and to never let her touch it again. seamstress 2 said No problem I can fix it, I always fix the streamstress 1’s mistake.
Finally I had to ask to speak with the manager, it is only 4 weeks until my wedding and seamstress 2 promised she could fix it, I don’t quite believe them anymore.
Just yesterday I was updated with the manager saying that they could bring in a new dress for me. It’s not technically new as it’s the last “Off the rack” dress express shipped in from Ontario. I was worried that this new dress will be either torn and will have stains on it.
So in an attempt to have a backup plan, I went to DB and asked the manager if I could take my original dress to MY seamstress and see if she could fix it. While engaged in conversation, the manager said it was seamstress 2 who had tried to fix seamstress 2’s mistake thus resulting in all that bunching. I was in disbelief and horror at this point, I do not trust DB’s alterations dept with my wedding dress.
I took my wedding dress just last evening to MY seamstress and she told me that the hemming was terrible and lazy. That I paid a high price($320) for such a Sh*tty job.
Though she could fix it, I would have to shorten my wedding heels to 2 inches.
For those who has taken the time to read through my entire story.
I am now wondering if the alterations refund from DB is even enough. I have taken multiple trips (4 trips) back and forth to fix my dress plus stress with 4 weeks to my wedding. I feel as if I should be compensated more than just the alterations refund.
The manager from DB pointed out that my original purchased dress was an OFF the rack from DB, which it was but I bought it when that DB had just opened and that dress was fresh off the rack so it was in pristine condition.
Can I get your thoughts? Should I be compensated more than just the alterations refund? or am I just pushing it?
Thanks for reading.. and listening to my problems..
