I was wondering how much it usually costs to alter a wedding dress? I know it depends on the detailing of the dress, but is there like an average cost? I had to order my dress by my hip size (apparently my hips do not lie) which means it’s big on top and has to be taken in. I’m kind of scared to know how much it’s going to cost because my dress has lace. Thankfully I shouldn’t have to adjust the length of the dress because they told me I’d need three inch wedding shoes. So, I know I can take care of that aspect with added height. Ahhh!

@SuperDuperBrit: It depends a lot on the material, who you get to do the alterations, the number of layers, where you are located ect. If you know the name of your dress, I would search for a dress twins thread and ask them about the alterations costs.

There is no set price – it depends on how much you are having done and what kind of time committment that involves. My dress was $900 but the alterations are $600 because of the changes I’m making.

I just had my dress shortened, bustled, taken in a bit, and made the neckline a deeper sweatheart. That costed about $400 plus anothe $100 for steaming. My dress is just a satin dress, so I would assume lace would be more expensive if you have lace.
